Hi hon!  Linda Maltby put your pattern for dolls up in Patterns and it's exactly what I am looking for...in it you describe how many rows in each color....thanks SO much! I am collecting all my odds and ends of yarn to make some.  It's going to be fun!

Love, Jeanne xo

Hi Denise! I just now saw your website and I'm so excited by your patterns! How awesome that you are promoting KAS there as well! Anyway, I'm looking forward to checking out some of the patterns, especially the comfort doll...what a great job you did on that! Sometimes I need a break from my crochet, so that will be a perfect project.
Thanks for sharing your patterns. So generous of you!

I love your video. Thank you. It makes me want to go and buy a loom and try it. I wonder if it is faster or slowly than knitting?

In response to your comment, I'm learning Spanish (I have native speakers correct my work) so you know more Spanish than I do, but I think these charts might help (I think the box in the bottom right of the first page is to just translate things between American and British knitters/crocheters): http://site.ninerubies.com/patterns/Crochet.English-Spanish.New.pdf http://thecrochetnetwork1.tripod.com/crochetuniversity/foreigncrochet.html

If you'd like! I made that my profile picture because I'm the one who designed that square in the early days of KAS =).

Hi LoomaHat, Thanks for your comments on the videos, and yes, I would love to join your new Group!  I am not online very often because I don't have easy access to the internet, so hope you won't mind if it sometimes takes me a while to reply to anything that is posted.  Best wishes, Lucy

Good for you for starting a loom knit group.  I'm not sure how many KAS people use a loom, though there are a few.

Welcome to Knit A Square from the middle of Canada above MN, LoomaHat!  Please feel free in the header above to visit Discussions or join Groups to talk about things or go to Photos to see what some members are up to.  Talk about yarn artistry! It’s a very positive group and it all goes to help the poorest of the poor, AIDS/HIV orphans who are parentless and being cared for by many good and kind folk in often desperate surroundings.  Our crocheted, knitted and sewn items can help give a child hope, warmth and a smile.  Glad you’re with us!

Welcome LoomaHat, from Knoxville, TN!  So glad you've joined us!  This is the most wonderful friendly site for knitters and crocheters EVER!  Please let us know if you have any questions about getting around the site - someone will surely be glad to help.

Hello LoomaHat, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.

When you are ready to send your parcel, visit both these sites for important information.  Click Here for tips and here for postage rates.

Once you have sent your parcel you can check the squares lists. Every month, we list the squares, beanies and tops that have arrived in South Africa. To find the ‘Squares lists’ please click the ‘Discussions’ tab [see tabs above] then on “Tallies/Item Count” for an up-to-date listing.  We also have a ‘Drive to Fill Ronda’s KASvan’ with squares and would appreciate if you would add to this challenge.

We have a monthly challenge as well.  This is a fun way to try new colours, ideas or patterns revolving around the theme. If you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or trying a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting.  An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting. This month we are Celebrating Africa and the life of Nelson Mandela.  Please join us to see the lovely squares that have been made and then add a few of your own !

If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month.  Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, know it will be appreciated and that you are keeping children warm.

As always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children.  Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people from around the world, squares are needed all the time.

Enjoy !

The Donate button provides 2 options:

  1. One time donation
  2. Monthly subscription               [click the box]

Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more].  Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees.  Thank you!

Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:

1. Make a donation whenever you are able.

2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).

3. Shop at the KasShop!

Please follow this discussion for monthly updates, current financial reports and ideas on what we can all do to help. Click link :
