Hi Harrison's mom. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to joining in with the fantastic efforts of the rest KAS. My needles are a bit 'rusty' but helping out with such a great cause will soon have me up to speed again!
Hello Jeni
Thank you for your comments on my blankets. The small squares used up bits I had left. I was going to make a load of teddies with it so they were ready to send for Christmas but the call for blanket squares too priority. I am just concentrating on squares for the moment......Julia
Hi there Jeni,
I crochet & knit. I love watching the football & so I have decided to knit squares all through the world cup & see how many I can get done. I will put a pic on her to let you know how I got on. Thanks for the welcome. Jan x
I could do with a friend!! I might need to hold your hand to travel around this site for a while.!!What is that strange thing you are holding to make hats? Aren't you knitting them?
Hi Jeni!
thanks for your reply.Ja, I tend to stick with what works but every now and again I get a bee in my bonnet. My friend is going to London to spend time with his daughter. I should probably contact her directly as she has recently started to crochet and she's the type to explore every avenue when she takes up a hobby or sport. She will probably know suitable shops in London and find her way around the internet more easily than me.

Hi Jeni!
I wonder if you could give me some idea of crochet hooks commonly available in the UK. Do you use anything special? Do you go in for any of the ergonomic types (not that I like the look of the one where ends are fitted into an eggshaped piece). I have seen a few pictures of clover something or other and pryms hooks. All we have here are a choice between two types in aluminium. Mine are all old as the hills, most came from my Mom, on reflection, even older than I thought. I just fancy something new and interesting.
Anyway to cut a long story short a friend of a friend is going to the UK next week and may be prepared to slip a set in amongst his possessions. I wish he could bring back a whole suitcase of interesting yarns but that's stretching it.

Hi Jen,
Glad you like the elephants. They are quite easy to do once I figured out the pattern !
I'm going to have to get a loom. Those flowers are very nice. I have one more in a mossy green so will make a bright square for it.
Ah, thank you Jeni... What a lovely thing to say. I feel very privileged to be part of KAS and to have 'met' all the amazing people who contribute so much to our project. How wonderful it would be to meet you all in person some day...
Your little angel is just too beautiful by the way!
Hi Jeni
I joined the UK group today (I think!)...still finding my fingers round the forums as you say.
I have a vague memory of that hook thingy, but am certain have forgotten how to crochet! I'm really happy knitting my squares for now. Looking forward to making some other things in the future, but desperate to hit that target in the next three months! How about you? Whats your current project?
Nicola
Hi Jeni,
Thanks for the welcome comment.
I can knit at a beginner/intermediate level and am in the process of teaching myself to crochet.
I'll post pics when i have a small batch of squares done.
Hi Jeni
Thankyou! I am crocheting at the minute although I used to knit when I was younger. Am looking forward to sending my first batch of squares off, so no doubt will have a few questions about posting them very soon! x
Thanks for making contact, this is my first attempt on any forum...........
Isn't it great to be part of a caring team from every part of the globe - it proves that WE are making a difference.
There are several reasons...it started many years ago when my father was Foreign Student Adviser at Northwestern University and I met students from Africa. Then I taught middle school for 13 years and taught an extensive unit on Africa. My daughter spent part of last summer in South Africa on a study abroad opportunity. And last, but not least, I have been working with the "Save Darfur" coalition for years and know several outstanding human beings who survived the horrific conflict there. Africa is in my heart.
Hi Jeni
Just trying to catch up with the KAS site as I have a lot of "work" at the moment. Well I have managed one crocheted hat now I have a couple of hooks I will have another go will try and attempt a square next !
Hi Jeni. Haven't spoken for a while. Thanks for adding my last squares to the tally. My son is staying for a few days next week so will get him to show me how to do it.I'm still not sure of my way round the computer but am getting there slowly. I'm also getting a digital camera so hopefully I will be able to put some photos of my squares on my page! Take care Elsie

Rob :-)
Yes, the pics certainly spur the fingers on - I've almost become adicted to knitting in the process. Kind regards, Pam
