Welcome to Knit A Square Julia from the middle of Canada!  Please feel free to visit Discussions or join Groups to talk about things or go to Photos to see what some members are up to.  Talk about yarn artistry! It’s a very positive group and it all goes to help the poorest of the poor, AIDS/HIV orphans who are parentless and being cared for by many good and kind folk in often desperate surroundings.  Our crocheted, knitted and sewn items can help give a child hope, warmth and a smile.  Glad you’re with us!

Hello Julia, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.

When you are ready to send your parcel, visit both these sites for important information.  .  Click Here for tips and here for postage rates.

Once you have sent your parcel you can check the squares lists. Every month, we list the squares, beanies and tops that have arrived in South Africa. To find the ‘Squares lists’ please click the ‘Discussions’ tab [see tabs above] then on “Tallies/Item Count” for an up-to-date listing.  We also have a ‘Drive to Fill Ronda’s KASvan’ with squares and would appreciate if you would add to this challenge.

We have a challenge for each month.  This is a fun way to try new colours, ideas or patterns revolving around the theme. If you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or trying a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting.  An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.

This month we are celebrating Christmas !  Yes, it is a ‘bit’ early but Ronda would like time to prepare the blankets before the holiday season arrives.  We will be making squares with a festive theme: Christmas trees, reindeer, bells for example.  We also need many squares in reds, greens and whites to compliment the fancy squares. We would love to see your creations.  Click here to join in the holiday spirit :-)

If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month.  Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, know it will be appreciated and that you are keeping children warm.

As always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children.  Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people from around the world, squares are needed all the time.

Enjoy !

Is it fun being near Wimbledon, or a nightmare at this time of year?!  Don' be afraid to ask any questions at all about the forums and website in general.  It has all grown so much over the years with a lot going on - it can be hard to find your way about.  But no question is daft - ask away if anything at all is not clear.  Enjoy knitting - every square is so valuable.

Hi Julia and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk, UK.

So glad you have joined us in this wonderful adventure.

If you haven’t already please take a look at

http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/kas-wish-list-guidelines-for-2013 which will give you some ideas what items are needed.

Also the pattern book will give you advice and patterns of items that are also desperately needed,

http://forum.knit-a-square.com/page/patterns

http://forum.knit-a-square.com/photo will show you photos of members wonderful creations, including decorative squares or squares of one colour which we affectionately call Plain Janes. Each and every one is very much needed, it takes 35 squares to make one blanket.

I hope you have fun and if you have any questions please ask, we are a very friendly, chatty bunch :)

You may also like to come and join our UK group http://forum.knit-a-square.com/group/uk  for more local topics

Hi Julia,

Welcome to Knit a Square - lovely to have another UK member.  What part of London are you from?  I was born in Lewisham but have lived all over the South East and am now on the Shropshire/Wales border.  There will soon be messages from other members here telling you all about us but I hope you enjoy the forum and knitting for KAS.  There is a UK forum too if you would like to keep in touch with UK news.

Pam

CREATECARE GLOBAL

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."

Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
