Package of Love.

Posted on April 23, 2010 at 4:09am 1 Comment

Today I received a beautiful package from Cindy. It was sent in response to a discussion about what yarn that isn't available in your country would you like to try.
I had just finished posting that I'd like to try Caron Simply Soft when I got a message from Cindy to say that she had lots in her stash and would send me some.
Not only did she send me 3 lovely skeins of yarn, but a pattern and magnetic notepad as well.
I can't wait to try it as it is beautifully…

Hi Dawn, lovely to hear from you and, yes, I did have a lovely birthday. Glad you enjoyed yours. Rod and I went out for a bite to eat with our daughter and have a lovely evening. However, during the night all things changed - I brought everything back (both ends!). This went of for at least 3.1/2 hours. Not nice!!! I put it down to the mussles I had eaten the evening before. Probablty too much information!!!! Thank you for your lovely comments on my work for KAS. I can return the compliment in abundance! I have not been on the forum much until the last couple of weeks, due really to so much going on family-wise. Take care. Love, Angela xx

Hi Dawn,
Here is Cathy'a pattern

I used chunky yarn and 6mm needles, will probably fit 8-10 year old.

CO 68 st
1st round - k12 place a marker (pm), k10 pm, k24 pm, k10 pm k12 pm

Round 1 - Purl
Round 2 - k to 1 st before marker, knit front and back of stitch to increase, slip marker, knit front & back of next stitch. Repeat for each marker.

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until you've got about 148 stitches. On next round, cast off stitches between markers 1 & 2 and between markers 3 & 4.

Continue is stst (knit every round) until top is long enough (add some ribbing or garter stitch at the bottom for about 10 rounds then cast off.

I've just finished another variation of this with sleeves - To do this, instead of casting off sleeve stitches, place then on waste yarn and then use these stitches to knit the sleeves afterwards (I picked up 2 stitches underneath the arm to avoid a hole appearing here).

I'd be quite happy for anyone to try out this pattern and let me know how it works! It would be quite easy to vary the size by adjusting the number of cast on stitches or using different weight yarn/needles.

Me: I used DK and 9mm needles to give it a stretchy feel. I also used ordinary needles for an inch or so and then went onto a circular needle. I also had to start with more stitches. You knit so beautifully that I am sure you will soon find a way that suits you best. I love Cathy's pattern as it is so easy She has also done one with sleeves but I have not attempted that, yet. Good luck with the pattern - Jen xx

Thanks for your comments Dawn. I really enjoy experimenting with pattern changes and I know whatever size it turns out it will fit someone.
I like all your patterns. I can do basic knitting but have fun with crocheting.

Hi, thanks for your message. Everyone is so kind and friendly on here :) I am really not well at the moment so it's nice to have people to chat to. I am not from the highlands unfortunately, looks very beautiful! My mum and dad are from the North East, but maybe my family tree could be traced back to the highlands :) Is that where you are from?
