I have just replied to your question that you posted....before I saw your message to me....so I will reply here, too. :))
Squares of any weight are much appreciated. I have knitted squares in all different weights and all been gratefully received. If the yarn is very thin, as occasionally they are, I have doubled up, but here in OZ, most of our 8 ply (DK) seems thick enough. Some people prefer to knit/crochet in Aran or chunky...it really is personal choice and availability. I think the needle/hook size is probably just meant to be a guide for those who are unsure what size to use. I usually look at the band on the yarn and see what hook/needle size they suggest. Sometimes I find it may be creating a tension that is a little 'loose' and go for a size smaller. If you are a knitter or a crocheter, let your own experience guide you.
Thank you for joining us and choosing K-A-S for your project. xo
Knitting, crocheting or looming an 8" square or two, or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world. PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page or our other square pattern discussion http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/member-s-patterns-squaresyou can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow K-A-Sers. "CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."
Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
