Welcome to KAS, Rose from around the world in Canada. I agree, you're right, the kiddies need blankets more than anything. We started out with various sizes of blankets for different ages but then decided on 7x5 squares (8 inches each) as the one size so the children don't outgrow the blanket and get cold again. Blanket squares are the backbone of helping the children. Some people do send fully made up blankets too. We now have a prison in Johannesburg that has the inmates sewing up the squares into blankets for them, so they can feel they're doing something for others worse off than they are. That's why we started the "Fill the Buses" challenge for February-April. We already have many fine church ladies' groups in South Africa helping us sew up the squares too. I'd feel overwhelmed by the need but knowing we're all doing our bits means we continually build mountains from all our pebbles (squares). Seeing the photos of the children's faces is SO encouraging...they are amazed someone hasn't forgotten them and they're important enough to get their own blanket and hat and sometimes small stuffed toy.
I find KAS such a rewarding cause to be involved in and I hope you enjoy it too. Do check out the New Member Guide which is found by clicking "Main Page" in the header above. To reach the Discussions just click Forum above. Any questions just PM me. :) So, welcome to Knit A Square! Blankets and hats and sweaters direct from our hands to their hearts, a win-win.

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."
Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
