Hello Margaret, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.
Every month, we list the squares, beanies and tops that have arrived in South Africa. To find the ‘Squares lists’ please click the Forum tab [see tabs above] then on “Tallies/Item Count” for an up-to-date listing. We also have a ‘Drive to Fill Ronda’s KASvan’ with squares.
When you are ready to send your parcel, visit both these sites for important information. Click Here for tips. Postage rates are here.
We have a challenge for each month. This is a fun way to try new colours, ideas or patterns revolving around the theme. If you wish, you may create something new and different......it could be making a plain square using a new colour, a different stitch or trying a totally new way of knitting/ crocheting. An 8”/20cm square is the perfect size for experimenting.
This month we are celebrating Christmas ! Yes, it is a ‘bit’ early but Ronda would like time to prepare the blankets before the holiday season arrives. We will be making squares with a festive theme: Christmas trees, reindeer, bells for example. We also need many squares in reds, greens and whites to compliment the fancy squares. We would love to see your creations. Click here to join in the holiday spirit :-)
If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month. Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, know it will be appreciated and that you are keeping children warm.
As always, making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and still help the children. Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS. Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people from around the world, squares are needed all the time.
Hi Margaret, Welcome to the KAS Forum from the UK. I hope you will enjoy being part of this friendly & lively community. Do you knit or crochet or both? We now have our official KAS Pattern Book with all the garments and squares that have been found the most useful to distribute to the children. Just double click on this link : http://forum.knit-a-square.com/page/patterns
Very glad your student directed to you our global knitting family! Check out the Hello & Welcome Letter by clicking the "Main Page" tab above. There you will find all kinds of information about KAS. Another great section to look over is the Photo tab - everyone is so supportive of the work on display.
"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."
Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
