I figured she'd love that :). I am amazed at her generosity, I wouldn't have been able to give away my teddies when I was four! Glad to be your friend by the way :).

Hi Kerry! I saw that your daughter's stuffed animals have arrived in South Africa. Here is a link - it's right under the Hannah Montana blanket :).

Greetings! Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African HIV/Aids orphans and the poorest of the poor. Glad to have you with us!  It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, in the header above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world, not to mention Patterns where you can get inspired with easy level patterns of things the children really need, the right sizes and shapes.

When you click on Discussions, the Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section above) shows the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Café KAS Discussion section, which contains the Our Furry Companions and Yarnaholics threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic!  Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!

Hello Kerry, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.  As the name implies, we focus on sending 8” x 8”(20 cm x 20 cm) squares to be made into blankets to provide comfort to the many children in need.

Your daughter is very caring.  How delightful that she is willing to part with some of her friends to make children in South Africa happy !  Check out the photos from some of the distributions.  The way the children hug the toys is so heart-warming.  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/photographs-from-kas-distributions-1

We have a number of challenges that you might be interested in joining. Until April, we are focussing on long-sleeved garments for the children to wear during their cold winters.  At the same time we are running a second challenge: KAS Reaches Great Heights for the Children has us making squares to reach the height of Table Mountain in South Africa.  That is 178,000 squares !   We are into the final days of the February challenge....Hearts and Red, White and Pink squares.  Please check the DiscussionsCategories[see tab above]for all the monthly challenges.

If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the challenge month.  Many of us use sea-mail and find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Since parcels are arriving all the time, please use the most inexpensive way to send.  Whenever your parcel arrives, it will be appreciated.

Making the basic square is a wonderful way to relax and help the children.  Plain Janes, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS.  Since a blanket is created with 35 squares sent by people around the world, squares are needed all the time.

We would love to see photos of your work [and your daughter's toys]. Click on the photo option in the tabs above and follow the prompts.

Enjoy !

CREATECARE GLOBAL

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."

Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
