Hello Jennifer,

Thanks for welcoming me to KAS. I hope to be sending-off my first lot of squares very soon. I'm a bit apprehensive but will send them with my fingers crossed!

All the best,

Joyce

Greetings Jennifer from the middle of Canada, across The Pond from you!  Sorry I'm getting to this late but the welcome is sincere.  You can click on the links above to visit Cafe KAS to chat, or join any groups you wish in Groups or go see all the photos on display.  I hope your mailing problem has been resolved for you.  Thanks for joining KAS and making a difference in these orphans lives!  Any questions, just ask, I'll do my best to help out.

One of the things I like about KAS is that it has helped me learn to crochet fairly well. I was in a granny square rut, but didn't have the courage to try anything more demanding. But...when I saw what everyone was doing I wanted to do other more interesting things and I found out that they weren't as difficult as I had imagined. Crochet is really quite easy as far as the basics go and there are so many good tutorials on internet. I am, however, a hopeless knitter. I can just about manage the very basic stitches. If you ever visit my part of France, I'll teach you  to crochet!!

Welcome to KAS. It really is a very friendly community, and we're all here to help if you have any problems. The photo page is also really good to check out to see what everyone is making.

Like you, I feel that these orphans are part of my family, honorary grandchildren. I don't have any grandchildren of my own, so I've adopted a few million in South Africa.

Hi Jenny, that is a puzzle.  I see Carol has directed your query to Pam.  She will be the one with an answer for you.

Hi Jennifer, so sorry to hear about your problem. To be honest this is the first time I have heard this happen. I will forward your question to Pam, if anyone has an answer it will be Pam! So hoping this does not deter you amd I'm sure Pam will be in contact soon :)

Hi Jennifer and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk UK. We are a very friendly bunch so please feel free to ask any questions, there is always somebody with an answer, as I have found out!

Do take a look around the site using the tabs at the top of the page.

The pattern tab will take you to some wonderful knit and crochet patterns of items that are desperately needed. We are focusing on children aged 4-9 years old.

Using the patterns from the KasPattern Book , which are designed for the older child, will ensure you send exactly what the children need to keep them warm.

The discussion Ronda's Winter Drive-Celebrating the Year of the Older Child  has an update of items needed.

The photo section has some wonderful pics of peoples work and when you feel ready it would be great to see some of your work but it isn’t a necessity to do this. It’s a great place for ideas and inspiration to keep the children warm.

You may also like to join the UK group, found under the ‘groups’ tab for lots of info and chat.

So glad you have joined us.  Happy knitting/crocheting :)

Hello Jennifer, so glad you have joined us. Keeping the children in South Africa warm has brought together a world-wide group of caring knitters and crocheters.

If you haven’t already, please read through the welcome message on the forum main page for helpful hints and things that might interest you. The FAQ category should answer any general questions you may have. If not, please ask. http://forum.knit-a-square.com

You might like the Monthly challenge.  This is a fun way to try new ideas or patterns.  Every month, a theme is chosen, and if you wish, you may create something new and different.

February’s challenge is Transportation. Have a look at the discussion for ideas on what you can make.

Many people are using 'Ecofelt' to make the cars/trucks/spaceships and then sewing them onto the plain squares. This is an easy way to give added interest to a square. Plus the children will be delighted !

If you would prefer to work with Plain Janes then have fun with colours that remind you of transportation.  Since it takes 35 squares to make one blanket, squares, especially Plain Janes are needed all the time.

If you are interested in joining any of our challenges, please note: Your parcel does not need to arrive in South Africa before the end of the month.  Those of us who use sea-mail find parcels take between 6-10 weeks to arrive. Whenever your parcel arrives, know it will be appreciated and that you are keeping children warm.

Enjoy !
