Hi Diane. It's sunny and about +2C right now which is the warmest it's been since October!  Love it!  The snow is waist deep on our front lawn but I believe in the power of the sun to start getting at it. The sunlight is much warmer now.  The thought of the sheep wearing wellies made me chuckle.  Nobody over here has a clue what wellies means. I remember! I use them for puddle playing--at 63 I still love messing about. :) Supporting Age UK like that is a super idea.  There's always so many ways we can help others. I got a good laugh over the scarf...what visions I got of others having to extract you from it.  I think I'm right glad I didn't use that same yarn!  I've got a couple of scarfs that are tube like enough that the blighters roll off me and undo all the time.  I do take the frilly one and double it and then pass the other two ends through it, making a loop around my neck, that's the only way to tame it but it looks abit dorky that way.  I may just donate mine to a Thrift shop...another one made of two long strips of fleece sewn together down the middle and then fringed all the way on both sides also rolls and if I double that guy up I can barely see where I'm going, it kinda swallows me up.  So maybe two scarves to the Thrift store!  Anyways I'm sure you'll find lots of friends and like minded people here.  Enjoy the warmth!  I say it's about time eh?  love, Jeanne xoxoxo

Thanks Diana, we're a great team in KAS - and that includes all the members! By taking direct action we are simply 'getting on with it' !!!

Used to be taken to the Dunstable Downs as a child - loved the views and watching the local gliding club take off!

Thank you also for the wonderful contribution you are making - you know that nothing is wasted and the goods actually reach the children they are meant for - a square, garment, hat or cuddly toy knitted or crocheted with love, care and respect, cannot fail to 'infect' a child and improve their well-being.

Greetings Diana from the middle of Canada. I see you've got one of those frilly scarves around you in your avatar photo. I made one in purples and green and I must ask...do you have trouble with it just rolling right off your shoulders? Maybe it's just my parka but I'd love to know how to get mine to stay put, it's worse than a Slinky toy for rolling around!

Welcome to a worldwide network of loving happy people helping African HIV/Aids orphans and the poorest of the poor. Glad to have you with us!  It's so heartening to know that in this global, often so impersonal world, we're actually making a difference, a REAL difference, in the lives of these children. Check out the Forum, in the header above, for the various discussion threads, and Photos for all the lovely photos of members' work and Groups where you can join groups from countries around the world, not to mention KAS PatternBook where you can get inspired with easy level patterns of things the children really need, the right sizes and shapes.

When you click on Discussions, the Featured Discussions grouping (in the Forum section above) shows the most important subjects at the moment, latest challenges, latest news etc. I also recommend the Café KAS Discussion section, which contains the Furred, Feathered and Fishy Companions and Share A Yarn threads. I am so much a Yarnaholic!  Thanks again for helping the AIDS orphans in Africa!

Hi Diana.

That's great to hear that you have been making things for a while, I did it the other way around....I joined and then it took me ages to get around to knitting enough to send. These days I have patches where I do more and then some less...although since Christmas I have been more 'on the ball' as I finished working...hopefully just for a while...but am enjoying the knitting time....lol. Hope you have a great day and that the weather is treating you reasonably kindly....cooler here today after a few days of 35+C...better weather for knitting...lol.

Hi Diana.

Welcome to KAS...from over here in very hot and sunny Western Australia.

Do you like to knit, crochet, or perhaps both?

Plain Jane squares, as they are affectionately called, are the backbone of KAS and are ALWAYS our most needed item. This type of square being a garter stitch/single colour or striped square and I think it is single or double crochet  if your preference is for crochet. By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page you can also find lots of other patterns provided by our fellow KASers, if you are wanting to mix it up a bit and make other patterned squares as well.

If you click on the groups tab at the top of the page you will find all the different groups and you are free to join as many as you would like.  :))

Please check out the 'Helpful Hints' tab at the top of the page as this may answer many initial questions you may have and will help you get started. Any other questions...just ask...we love to help.  :))

If you'd like to see what other KASers have been making please click on the photo tab at the top of the page....and feel free to add photos of your own work...we would love to see them. Just click on 'add photos' and follow the prompts.

If you want to see the most active discussions at present, you may like to click on the 'main page' tab and they are listed in the centre of that page...just pick one and click on it. It is a large website, but with so much fun and info.

We also have a theme for every month that you might like to view and participate in, but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. The theme for March can be found here:  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/march-2014-challenge-around-the-world-in-31-days

The Donate button provides 2 options:

  1. One time donation
  2. Monthly subscription               [click the box]

Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more].  Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees.  Thank you!

Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:

1. Make a donation whenever you are able.

2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).

3. Shop at the KasShop!

Please follow this discussion for monthly updates, current financial reports and ideas on what we can all do to help. Click link :
