Thanks so much for the prompt reply. I have never knitted in the round before. Just bought some red and white yarn today and loved this pattern. I usually knit the lionbrand one (that Jeanne told us about) but wanted a pattern for a stocking stitch one this time. Well I will have to go looking, but thanks so much for the info.

Hi Bev, this is just a classic knit-in-the round hat, where at the crown you start the decreases at regular intervals. I think this was 72 stitches cast on.
