My first attempt at a solid granny square, with help from Heather at Little Tin Bird, a young but wonderful crochet tutor to whom Christine Johnson referred me. Mystifyingly, there's one stitch too many on all outer sides. Hmmmm.

I went and printed off Little Tin Bird's directions. If I can't get it now then I never will, lol! Thanks for the link Christine!

Donna these solid grannies are perfect for blanket squares for KAS and you did a super job on them! Way to go!

Solved the stitch-increase-rate problem. I learned (the hard way!) to increase the stitches by three per side each round!

Live and learn!

Thanks, guys! And, yes, Jana, I think the solid granny square might be a better bet for a blanket than the more open classic granny.

Very good first attempt because I can even crochet.

Great Donna, my first square was very rounded at the corners as I kept loosing them !

You're certainly a very good advert for Heather's skills. I wasn't as successful as Donna with my first attempt but certainly I found Heather to be very helpful.

Lovely. Hard to believe its a first attempt! Shhh never mind about the extra stitches. I tried crochet and I assure you it was just plain mystifying to look at!
