Rachel the hat pattern I have had for a long time and is kind a basic: I play with it using different yarns to make different sizes:

Cast on 70 sts on a circular needle ( 4.5 mm )

K1P1 for 1.5 inches

Then Knit even for 4 to 5 inches

Begin decreasing:

Round 1: K8 K 2 tog across

Round 2: K

Round 3: K7 K2 tog across

Continue decreasing in this manner every alternate round until K1 K2 tog

Last round-K2 tog around

Thread end through remaining sts, draw up and fasten

The cap can be 6 ins in length or longer depending on the yarn and needle size you use
