I'm calling this The Betty Square in memory of a birding friend who recently passed away.
But it was mostly inspired by Linda Maltby's Twelve Days of Christmas squares with her beautiful birds.

Ah, yes ... binoculars and knitting needles -- the perfect combination!

Sharon I'm glad I made your day! My early morning routine always includes a mug of tea, some knitting, and my binoculars, 60 yr old Zeiss ones which belonged to my aunt who like your friend Betty devoted herself to conservation projects. Next to my KAS notebook is my bird logbook...so fear not, the spirit lives on!

And you are so right, we never know exactly where the inspiration comes from, for the next generation, but we can always hope.

You are all so generous and thoughtful.  I really do appreciate your supportive comments.

Betty was probably the kindest person I ever knew.  She didn't knit or crochet, but surely would have contributed to KAS if she had.  She devoted herself to bird conservation projects and helping young birders in Central and South America get the equipment and support they needed.   And who knows?   Maybe the squares with birds on them will inspire a child to study birds and further our knowledge of African avifauna.  We never know exactly where the inspiration comes from, but it could be from a donated blanket.

Note to Anne Powell ... I don't really mind tucking in the color ends, as long as I like the square, but I only have my own squares to work on, while you have hundreds (thousands???) that you make ready for blankets ... Now that takes patience!

and to Anne Griffith ... thank you!  You've made my day!

This is the prettiest square I've ever seen. I can't be the only person who wishes it was hanging on their wall! Lucky child who has THIS in their blanket.

Beautiful square!  You must have the patience of Job to sew in all those ends.

What a beautiful square.  It definitely fits the Two Turtle Doves theme but tells us a lot about your friend Betty too.  Going by the colors you used in this square I would say she was a cheery lively character and great to know. What a lovely tribute to her.

I can't say it any better!  Ditto, ditto, and ditto to everything they said!  What a wonderful way to honor your friend :)
