Loom a Square

A place for Loom Knitters to share their knowledge and creativity to benefit the children of South Africa.

Loom knitting has it's own pros and cons. Many special and unique methods of accomplishing what needle knitters do and so we need each other. I hope to meet many other loom knitters here but anyone is welcome.

I love those chunky squares!!!

I tried with one strand of yarn (4/5), it works fine ( I made several thin soft squares like the grey one on the pic), but I really prefer to use two strands together to make really thick smooth squares like the multicoloured ones!  *^_^*

& you ? What is the best for you ?

Really nice square and love the scarf! Did you use double strands of yarn for both, or single?

Loom knit scarf for May challenge

The loom was off the internet, cheap as chips, and when I say long the one I used was only 9 in long, I love the circular ones for hats, but I don't find them east for flat work. These squares were my first attempt. They are very easy and come out like a nice thick rib.

Christine, those squares are really gorgeous, and such nice colours in the yarn!  I've never tried a long loom - I must do one day if these squares are anything to go by ...

Really looking forward to your video on loom knitting the handwarmers! I have been trying to work out a way of doing them on a loom which produces a tight enough weave so the children's tiny fingers don't get caught in the "holes", but haven't figured it out yet, so your video will be very welcome. I have just completed one pair on ordinary needles and they have taken me AGES, as I am so slow, so loom knitting them will definitely be my preferred way!

Check out this article by Andrea Squared (cool website) - Hand warmers for KAS - for those that crochet

http://andreasquared.wordpress.com/2014/03/22/hearts-warming-hands/...

They can be made with a Small 24-peg loom - REAL EASY to do- will start on the video soon

Thanks, Denise, this is a link to another method - a join rather than a knot - which I found which I have also used and which doesn't show in loom knitting - it is fiddly to do, but SO strong! Check out this video on YouTube:
