This month we embrace all the things that come are under the African sky.
...and the Animals.
Now is the time to be creative with flags, animals, beadwork designs, instruments, cloth, housing styles and so much more from the continent of Africa.
Let us celebrate together, all that Africa has to show the world, and wrap the children in a warm cozy blanket.
LOVE the colour combo, Patricia!! That is a pretty green....have not found anything like it over here.
It's called a Mosaic Granny Square, Karla. If you Google that, the pattern I used is on a site called creativegrandma.net in PDF format. I changed the last three rounds to give it a firmer border.
This reminds me of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. When we visited there years ago, the Delta look like this and was full of hippos.
I now want to see an appliqued hippo or two attached to this blanket as the finishing touch! Any in your stash, Bev?
LOVE the colours in this yarn, Karen!!
Is this basketweave pattern the one from the free KAS knitting pattern book?
Sadly no, Patricia....it seems (from my googling experience) that hippos are not nearly as popular as elephants, lions and giraffes.....rhinos neither. :((
Hi no - it's just k4p4 x 4 rows, then p4k4 x 4 rows. The other choices in the Aldi pack were solids - white, pale pink or pale blue, so I felt lucky this brown based variegated is perfect for South Africa X✔️
I always like your basket weave pattern Karen, and the colours in this yarn look great :))
I got out all the brown wool I had, then looked out toning colours to make the amount I had available enough for a full size blanket. It is DK and is knit in 7 panels. A very good friend has finished it off with crocheted joins at the back and a good robust border to firm it up more. It is my 52nd completed blanket and I think it has turned out my best so far!
Very nice! Your choice of colours with the brown are perfect. :)
Absolutely fabulous Karen love it!
Wow, this is a keeper and looks so thick and warm.
You have captured so many colors that are Under The African Sky.
