Thank you, Patricia....I think this would produce some lovely and very varied squares, etc and as you say, seeing what others prefer to knit/crochet.  :))

To add to your knowledge Sue, and absolutely nothing to do with the Themes; one of the main things about seaside rock was (well, still is although I doubt if it is as popular these days) that the name of the resort was written in it, all the way through. So people would bring back a stick of rock from their holidays as an edible souvenir. It came in many flavours but I only liked the peppermint.

Hi Bev, its me again! I was thinking that all 'All things African' could be included in 'The Nations of the World', enabling us to have another theme :) Also, I love the suggestion 'Autumn Glory', but this could easily sit in 'Mother Natures Marvels', as I feel it is one of 'her' greatest! It could of course be a monthly theme on it's own, but again, it would free up space for another theme......... not that I'm greedy! :))

I like the title 'Happy Scrappies';  I instantly thought of some of the gorgeous 'scrappy teddies' and other lovely toys I have seen members make to use up their bits and not forgettingof course the delights (apart from all those ends) of scrappy squares!

I can't get the tune out of my head 'I do like to be beside the seaside', a good idea for a theme Lesley :))

I hadn't thought of 'happy scrappies' as being anything other than squares, Chris....good thinkin'!!

Yes, I am thinking there will be a little 'squishing' to be done, as there are soooo many great suggestions and it would be nice to fit them all in.  :))

Lovely ideas - here is an ideas from me as well........

How about Spring is Sprung?  Lots of bright greens, yellows and spring flower colours.  Perhaps paler blues with fluffy white clouds?  Blossom colours could make some nice squares as well........

Well Bev, so many great suggestions but sadly only 12 months, you have a difficult task ahead!
I wondered if the lovely Spring suggestion would fit in 'Mother Natures Marvels'; as it another of natures wonderful seasons.
'Bold and Bright' and 'Stripes and Diagonals' are the favourites of many members, so could they possibly both fit in 'Shariing our Favourites'?
I think 'Teddy Bears Picnic' would be a great way to boost toys as they always seem to be short of them in SA. Perhaps in the explanation other 'toy friends' could be included.
Similarly, 'Warm Hands Warm Hearts' would boost the much needed hand warmers, or perhaps each month giving hand warmers a special mention to promote the need?

The idea of a teddy bears' picnic is brilliant!  If it was in the summer months in the northern hemisphere we could all hold a picnic and get our knitting friends to make a teddy to bring!!!

 Bev, I tried to combine some of these ideas (they're all great!) to give us just 12.  These are just suggestions that perhaps others will fine-tune even more :)

1. Mother Nature's Marvels (combine with Autumn Glory, Summer Sunshine, Winter Warmth, Spring ??) - the seasons, oceans, gardens, flowers, birds, 

     animals etc.

 

2. All things African - Nelson Mandela, African colours, Flag, African animals, 

      Football team, etc

     (Theme early in the year to reach SA in plenty of time for squares to be sewn    

     into blankets for Mandela Day in July)

 

3. Celebrating Yarn - (Combine with Happy Scrappies & Dazzling Diagonals and Stunning Stripes) textures, weights, plain colours, variegated, neon etc

 

 4. Love at Christmas - All things Christmas (Made in time to reach SA and be

      included in blankets before December).

 

5. Sharing Our Favourites - whether it be a pattern, stitch, technique, colour, 

      or embellishment (can include all favourites...grannies, CtoC, Tunisian etc).

 

6. Think Girls! Colours and 'girly' embellishments 

7. Think Boys! -  Colours, cars, trains, planes etc

8. The Nations of the World - flags and national emblems, perhaps other  

      things that we associate with a particular country e.g. Africa / lion;  India / 

      snake; Canada / bear etc.

9. The Wonder of Learning -  counting, ABC, colours etc. 

10. Plain Jane Boost (combine with Jewels and Bright and Bold)

 

11. Teddy Bears Picnic - Toys, teddy squares...

12. Warm Hands, Warm Hearts - Handwarmers, 'heart' squares, pjs in pink and red.  Perhaps add BLUE, green, burgundy, gold hearts for boys (sorry Bev ... tee hee hee)
