I thought doing this blog/journal would be kind of fun...I've been off looking at some of the other blogs and enjoyed learning about everyone.

A little about me:

I was born in Michigan, and lived in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Arizona, Nevada and Wyoming.  I love Wyoming and believe I have finally found home.  I spent 6 months living in Irian Jaya, Indonesia...I have often visited Canada, and have been to Mexico once. Places on my list of things to see include Austrailia, Nigeria (I've known several beautiful Nigerian people), and Peru. One place I would love to see is Ireland.  Although there are many different countries represented in my family...most of the family came from Ireland; so I would like to get there sometime.

I love the colorful aspects of both Hispanic and African cultures...so many of their clothes and festivities burst with color.

I have been crocheting since I was 9, and taught myself to knit about 5 years ago. I also make collages, do a little woodwork, and create art out of found objects. I also write poetry and short stories.  I define myself as an artist.  I work in an office in order to afford my art.  My greatest wish would be to someday make a living from my art pieces...but that is a challenging thing to do in our world.  However I create because that is who I am, whether I can ever make money at it.  I have sold the occasional pieces of art or crochet, but all the money went back into supplies, of course.

I love just making squares, hats, and booties (mostly crochet) when I need some "meditative" time.  Once I decide what I am doing...I can just do it and this is how I relax.  I am a very busy and somewhat hyper person by nature. So I need this "quiet time" for my life. I love the thought that I can do this thing which relaxes me and causes me such pleasure, and then I can mail my work off to provide something needed by others.

If you pop by, please leave me a little note sharing something about yourself.

  • 2965006173?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Thanks everyone...I have been busy, busy, busy this week and no time to hang out here at the forum.

I have many squares and a few hats done and am going to be doing my first mailing on the first, which is payday.

Last year, I made my best friend a washcloth out of sport weight/DK yarn, and she loves it...it is the only thing she wants to use.  She says the smaller yarn is much better than the worsted weight for washcloths, although she likes the worsted weight knitted and crocheted dishcloths.  So........she requested that I make her some more.  Here is the pic of the 3 washcloths I made for her this week.

I will update more later on the mailing thing.  My postmaster says only boxes, soft packages are not the way to go????

  • Hi Shannon

You certainly have and continue to live an interesting life.

I dream of travelling, but am still plucking up the courage to do so.

I love to knit as it is very relaxing...I get stressed whenever I can't find the time to do it....lol

Thanks for sharing pieces of your life with us. The sharing...on whatever level.... is just one of the wonderful things about KAS...

    • Hi Shannon and thanks for your interesting introduction. I find knitting for KAS is my relaxation too. When I come home from work and want to relax my mind there is nothing better than thinking about colour or stitches or the latest KAS news or ezine. We all love the photos of the kids with their blankets !  I hope that you get more travel time too, to go to some of the places you want to see. Ireland sounds like a great idea for you as part of your origin discovery !.

  • Gosh Shannon, you have certainly moved about!  With your name and background you really must get to Ireland, and, preferably fly into Shannon Airport!  Sadly, art is under appreciated and under-valued. Most artists have to take teaching jobs or similar to provide food for the table.  It is good to see that despite a deprived childhood you have come through to be a very generous and caring soul - well done you.
