Opening Days in the

Knit A Square Barn 2021

From this... this... this...

...ending with full shelves.

Opening day at the KAS Barn is all about opening parcels and sorting the squares.  Bundling the squares to be sewn into blankets and then preparing blankets for distributions.

We hope that 2021 will be a year of great success for KAS and all the children of South Africa that receive KAS blankets.

Fabulous report and photographs of a VERY busy opening day at The Barn.   It's a real privilege and honour to see, thanks ever so much.   I'm so chuffed to recognise some of the items, especially from Chris, Patricia, myself and Marion as well as the many other fabulous items.   I feel you really do our crafting justice displaying them so nicely X

I’m pleased to see that another two of my parcels have arrived, my Mum is thrilled to see her teddies in the Barn. Great to recognise some of the blankets among all the fabulous things arriving.

Our weekly update.....

Opening Day at the KASbarn 18/05 / 2021.
Once again we received exciting new post.
Another productive day with visitors popping in and our fabulous volunteers who go the extra mile for this amazing charity KNIT A SQUARE.
It was great to see Molly again and as usual she came armed with beautiful blankets.
Mahali and Isaac from St Francis Anglican Church Outreach brought 54 lovely blankets that the Gogos stitched together.
Elaine Joubert brought a bundle of 35 of her fabulous squares for a complete blanket.
We loved the way Trish Gribble packed her two bundles of squares with this dearest little face peeping out.
Now this is what we call a serious ball of yarn. Thanks Chris Chiplen these 400+grams of yarn go a very long way.
Wandi and Viv doing what they do best...sorting and bundling.
It was a super surprise to see Mands arrive with brace and all.
Sue just goes from one task to the next...nothing is too much trouble for her.
Hanli Smith visited us from Brakpan with 73 beautifully knitted C2C squares.
Ana breezed in again with her latest 30 super blankets.
Just some of the interesting parcels opened....
small squares from Claire Leeson,
97 knitted squares from Samantha
from MPACT and the dearest baby vests and caps knitted by Marje Lattimer.
This is why we love Ana - viewing Aths and my clear tables - she’s collected her stash.
I’ve made space for more amazing post next week as we made quite a dent in it today.

Busy, busy, busy! Thanks to everyone for all their hard work.

Thank you for this speedy update, and the terrific photographs - it really helps keep us watching involved in the system ❤️

You’re amazing Amy that’s really speedy posting. Thank you for posting these pics, I’ve had such positive remarks from our donors especially when they recognize some of their work.

I'm so pleased to see another of my boxes arrived safely. They're really getting there fast this year. I make it 6 of the 8 sent that have arrived .

The latest podcast episode is out and features volunteers at the barn as they prepare for upcoming distributions. You can access the episode via this link:

Our amazing reporter, Estelle, brings us right into The Barn on May 25.

Opening Day at the KASbarn Tuesday May 25.
It was a quiet morning at the barn, we only had three visitors.
Pearl and her friend arrived bright and early to collect 40 blankets and beanies for the children at Kya Sands. She has done a super job distributing the blankets and has shared her photos with Ronda. I love the social distancing and the dear little child in the yellow hoodie. Thanks Pearl well done!
More distribution photos can be found in the Distribution discussion
Our second guest was Wendy- it’s always good to see you armed with fabulous blankets you and your mum have made from scratch and the couple you sort and stitch from the tables.
Wandi and Wendy were having a bit of fun 😉 when I took the pic of them behind the blankets, they were kneeling so don’t think that mountain of blankets was high! 🧐
Leigh-Ann brought more NOT A SQUARE’s amazing blankets they really are beautifully and artistically joined. I love the way the blankets are joined by crocheting them together.
Sue, Ath and I were privileged to work with fabulous picture squares this week. The giraffe and the clown Masterpieces from Marion Davies and I had Chris Chiplen’s perfectly sized animal squares.
I opened a box bursting with beautiful squares and toys from Valerie Zalewski.
Wandi a morning of sorting, bundling and packing of squares.
Sue, Viv and Ronda packing for more collections next week...thankfully they never seem to end and we can have more warm children this winter.
Viv always smiling and happy to help, assisting Themba unload the blankets he collected from the Gogos.
We packed over 100 blankets from the mountain and managed to clear the green carpet thanks Ronda for photographing all of those for The Blanket Room.
As there was no new post today we were able to catch up and clear the space for an avalanche next week.
As we are celebrating ARICA DAY we would like to thank everyone who make it possible for us to continue with this important mission.
