Ever wonder what happens with all that mail that arrives in South Africa?  It goes to the KAS Barn where many volunteers SORT everything out to eventually be distributed to local children.

Please check in here on a regular basis to see photos from all the activity in the KAS Barn during 2020.

Estelle, it's great to see you and Athele in the Barn.  It encourages us to keep knitting, knowing that some mail is getting through.

Thanks Mili I think most of that post was posted before our lockdown but it was a treat opening post again.

So pleased to see my parcel has arrived - it took a whole twelve days from posting to arriving at Bryanston!!

I think some of those blankets have gone straight out! Are parcels from the UK being accepted at the post office yet?

Yes, the post office in South Africa has been operating for about a month.  There may be a delay based on the backlog.

Lesley your squares and teddies are fabulous, thank you.

Thank you, Estelle - I'm just so happy to see them there, after the box has been sitting here ready to go for months!

So good to see you brave ladies! And to see all the parcels that were received is wonderful!

News from Estelle in The Barn this week:

Tseleng and Patrick from McCAIN delivered beautiful crocheted blankets, fleece blankets and hundreds of squares to KNIT A SQUARE this morning. Thanks to all who participated in the MANDELA DAY challenge.

Liz and Audrey brought their lockdown blankets and were consciousness as ever bundling blanket packs for us.

Ana brought about 50 of the 70 blankets she has made during lockdown. That’s amazing thanks Ana.

Joyce and Heather from Misfit with beautiful blankets they have made from recycling and new squares. Thank you and your team for the 32 lovely blankets you brought today and your ongoing support.

There was great excitement when 10 boxes arrive from KNIT FOR LIFE from the UK. Thank you Pam Johnson and Elaine Jones, sadly there no time to open them as the majority of the volunteers can’t join us at the barn due to COVID. Watch this space for pics of the wonderful goodies we get from them.

Lovely to see some activity in the Barn again. Good also to hear that at least some mail is getting through.

Great news from Estelle on August 19.  Yes, post is arriving from the UK that was posted after June 2020.

Ronda brought our first post posted after lockdown from the UK yay! You’ll be pleased to see that your memory blanket for Anne Powell arrived Chris Chiplen. Athelé joined me to pack blankets, beanies and toys for JikaJoe informal settlement in Pietermaritzburg. We couldn’t resist opening boxes from KNIT FOR LIFE UK and found the most beautiful knitted toys and blankets...just a few to whet your appetite. I love the old man with his spectacles.
I had counted 1004 squares from McCain by the time Athelé arrived and we still have a long way to go....and to think we were panicking about getting squares during lockdown. Our contributors have been absolutely amazing thank you.

Thanks for sharing Amy and Estelle. It’s great that post is arriving again from the UK and I’m delighted that my blanket ‘for Anne’ has arrived safely.
The toys are beautiful and I too love the old man with his specs :))

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."
