Thanks for posting these pics Amy.
Such a lovely idea - I bet the knitters have had great fun knitting them on the high seas!
The KAS Barn was very busy, with visitors, the post, sorting, packing and picture taking on April 9. Here are some posts that will hopefully capture all the action from that day.
There was a large post from Croatia. Those crafters continue to amaze us with their creativity, their passion and their abundance of good that they send to KAS.
We also receive this incredible homemade card from Croatia.
Bravo Molly, you always bring in exceptional blankets!!
News from the Barn on April 16...
Remember last week, (on page 13) about a group of ladies sailing the high seas and making squares for KAS? Here is a photo of Sian, Ronda's daughter, with two of the ladies from the Silversea luxury liner, holding up a blanket already completed and ready for distribution. Doesn't that blanket look so cozy?
They docked in Cape Town where Sian lives.
Beautiful!
The KAS Barn had a very special help on April 16, Estelle's grandson Emilio. He is 9 years old. Ronda believes that he is a treasure. Yes, indeed!
Estelle write: "We had a special helper today Emilio my grandson. I couldn’t keep up with all the parcels he opened so I ditched the blue strips to try and size squares and make blanket packs. I think Mabel found him most helpful as well."
This is Emilio's second time in the barn....the last time he visited was right after the Barn flooded in 2017, and he was busy with helping lay out all the blankets and square to get them to dry.
What all those strips of blue in the Barn you ask?
They are from Redefine Properties. Xoli is our contact with Redefine Properties and approached KAS wanting the KAS gogo groups to stitch together the strips into blankets.
The completed blankets will be for Grade R children (about 6/7 years old) at a needy Soweto school and they will be paying the gogos directly the R15/blanket stipend.
The school needs 150 blankets altogether, but Redefine Properties only have enough strips for 100. To meet their needs they are providing the wool and needles for the gogos to make the remaining 50 blankets. Redefines Properties will be paying R35 for each blanket.
Seems like a win-win all around.
Forty two of these blanket packs went out on April 16, plus another 18 normal KAS blanket packs. The gogos are working their fingers to the bone for the R15/blanket stipend.
Cool idea!
The Donate button provides 2 options:
Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more]. Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees. Thank you!
Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:
1. Make a donation whenever you are able.
2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).
3. Shop at the KasShop!
