We’ve been on quite a trip around the world this year - starting with our Flag Challenge, then on to Japan and Asia, then to Africa... and here’s our last stop - South America!

Hopefully you will find lots of inspiration for squares with this continent.... It really has it all - from mountains and rivers, to rainforests and plains and all the way south, almost to Antarctica.

The wildlife offers lots of scope - from the wild colours of the many tropical birds - to the hairy textures of the llamas and alpacas....and even penguins. Even the people are an inspiration - especially the patterns and colours found in the fabulous knitting that comes from Bolivia and Peru.

And if that’s not enough inspiration... consider Carnival in Rio... a veritable riot of colour. and the potential for lots of fun squares

Whether you prefer to try depicting some of the animals and birds, or create wild wonderful Carnival-coloured plain janes.. it all works.!!! And remember - as Sandy reminded us recently - at most, each child will likely have only one "embellished" square in his blanket... and for every one of those, we need 34 plainer ones to complete it....so for this challenge, everything goes!

PLEASE POST PHOTOS OF YOUR CREATIONS BOTH HERE IN THIS DISCUSSION AND IN THE PHOTO

Once again, Mary Kristel Lokken has set up a Flickr page for us.. watch the challenge grow at

A couple of squares in 'carnival colours' jazzed up a little with some black (appears dark grey, but is definitely black) yarn with long silver/metallic threads that my friend Kym gave to me.

  • September Challenge - Carnival colours

Pale pink, (deep) hot pink, mauve and purple are the colours of this gorgeous yarn that my friend Kym bought for me. The yarn was knitting up a little thin, so I pulled the other end out of the centre of the ball and knitted two together.

  • Here are my last squares for the September Challenge - some more Carnival colours and a rather 'dozy' looking Flamingo2930172738?profile=original2930172702?profile=original
