To Our October 2021 Theme

~ WAITING TO BE CHOSEN ~

Have you, like me, had yarn in your stash for a very long time, just waiting to be chosen, but you have passed over it in favour of other, newer yarn? Or, perhaps you have bought some yarn from a charity shop, never used by its previous owner, and it was just sitting there waiting…… then it was chosen by you!

Well, October could be the month when this yarn has its chance to shine, to fulfill its destiny and be chosen to help warm a child in SA, or perhaps even make a toy!

Appliqués or small needlepoint pictures may be at the bottom of a drawer or your work basket too, so please dig them out, for they too have been waiting to be chosen to enhance a square or a blanket that a child will treasure!

Do you have a pattern that has been on your ’to do’ list for a while? Well this could be the month you try it!

This month isn’t really an inspirational theme, but I hope it will encourage us all to look at what we have, and do what we can for the children. I hope we can also encourage and inspire each other!

Seeing photos of the children at distributions always motivates me to do as much as I can to help them….. and I know that I’m not on my own, we all wish we could do more!

The children in SA will welcome everything you make in any pattern or colour: blankets, squares, hats, hand warmers and toys!

So happy crafting everyone!

Another new pattern. The intention was to pick warm autumn colours but I feel it's ended up looking more Christmassy (and it also looks very similar to the centre of Amy's beautiful large square from earlier in the month so I think my subconscious may have been at work!).

Looks similar.  I loved how easy this pattern worked up and using the different colors.  Wish I could have stopped at 20cm.  Isn't it great how everyone, any where, can share the same pattern?

My husband wanted an entire blanket made with this pattern...now I have to figure out how to make it into a rectangle...calculator time.

WOW!! That's STUNNING, Patricia!! Loving the colours you have chosen....that border really pops!  :))

A beauty Patricia, another pattern ticked off your list!

October 2021 Theme - Waiting to be Chosen

Starting my Asian adventure with India and Japan.
India's flag is a horizontal tricolour in equal proportion of deep saffron (orange) on the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom. Each colour represents something different: Saffron represents courage and sacrifice. White represents peace, unity and truth. Green stands for faith and fertility ...
The Japanese flag is made up of a red circle, symbolizing the sun, against a white background. It is known as the hinomaru in Japanese, meaning "circle of the sun." Because Japan lies at the far West of the Pacific Ocean, the sun rises spectacularly over the sea to the East.

I’m loving the 16” panels Bev, and the info! These are  educational for the children, and I have no doubt they will enjoy having them in their blankets :))

Such a good idea to put the flag and the structure on the same panel, Bev.  Enjoying your tour.

I'm having a HUGE clear out right now & eager to turn my stash into useful things, I love this theme!

The November and December themes are good stash busters too, Sarah, so you can make quite a clearance before Santa brings you more yarn!

hurray! Getting stuck in already <3

Two more appliques that have been waiting a long time to be chosen!

The Flags of South Africa and Canada….

Bev's virtual tour has obviously given you wanderlust too, Chris!
