For the next two weeks, prior to the beginning of the next BIG SURPRISE CHALLENGE, we are giving you free reign to HAVE SOME FUN, while creating mucho squares!

BUT WAIT!  Hold your hat!  Or should I say; HOLD – THE – HATS!!

We have learned from Ronda and her crew that they have approximately 3 hats for every potential blanket!  We have been asked, for the time being, to please focus on squares rather than hats.  Might I suggest that, rather than making a hat, you make 3 squares instead?

As you can see from the photos that Ronda provided, they have A LOT of hats!

Lots of hats!

....and more hats!

SO, let's work on our fundamental purpose, MAKING SQUARES!!

As always, the greatest need is for plain jane squares!  But if you need some inspiration, here are some ideas for you!

Finish your UFOs (unfinished objects!)  If you are like me, you probably have a few partially done squares hiding away in your cupboards.  This is a great opportunity to finish up all of those squares that were started for a different challenge and never got finished!

Explore your creativity!  There are limitless possibilities for exploring your creativity.  Color is one of my favorite ways to do that!  Where to look?  A color wheel can help when trying new colors together!

Fabric can give you some great color combos; I love perusing the fabric store for ideas!

Pump out some major PJs!!!    Wouldn’t it be awesome to see stacks and stacks of plain janes?!?!  Check out Susan Haines’ stack of 88 squares!

I hope you have some fun with our “Un-challenge”!  I can’t wait to see what you create!!

*****Laurie Fortier has graciously created a Pinterest page for the "Un-challenge"!  The link for that is here:

Just wanted to make a pretty flower.  :-)

OCTOBER 2013 Just a Pretty Flower

Five squares for the fifth anniversary of Knit A Square.... some made from the Chain Stitch Square pattern here on KAS, which has become my go-to pattern, one made from the Corner Stitch Diagonal Crochet Square, which I learned from other KASfolk, one traditional Granny Square, and one with a little Fair Isle knit pattern.

Happy Anniversary, KAS ... and many more!

You know me and Smiley's :-)   Had to get one in this month.

OCTOBER 2013 Mr. Smiley

I don't know if this is the proper "challenge" to add this photo under, but it is such an awesome parcel, I didn't want anyone to miss it!  This is "Parcel 10" by Janeen Smith!  Isn't it fabulous?!

A couple quick squares, done between finishing off the Alphabet squares!

October 2013 Unchallenge Odds and Ends

Introducing Ms. Smiley.  She's out on the town strutting those baby blues awaiting her date with Mary Anne's Mr. Smiley (when he's finished).  :-)

OCTOBER 2013 Ms. Smiley

Here are a couple more for my scant contribution to this Un-Challenge.  My days are rather full at the moment, but I am managing to steal a few minutes here and there to do some handwork and browse all the beautiful creations from everyone else xo

This is the one I was thinking about as the trademark square for the Square Circle Forum since it is, after all, a Square Circle :))))

And here is another crocodile stitch ... stitched to a more solid square for ease of sewing :)

Here are a few squares I made while travelling to a wedding last week-end ( I was the passenger at the time :-)

These are my 'Square Circles' to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of KAS.  What a great five years it has been.  May we have many more !

As promised, here is my version of Mr. Smiley (who will evidently be going out on the town with Robin's Ms. Smiley, LOL) I dressed him up in his best bow tie!

6 cars....only 4 squares to

A few days ago, Susan Donaldson posted a square in blues and yellows that was really pretty.  I had some yarns in similar colors, so I grabbed them and started making squares, and here is the result:

Thank you Susan, for the inspiration to use these colors.

The Donate button provides 2 options:

  1. One time donation

Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more].  Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees.  Thank you!

Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:

1. Make a donation whenever you are able.

2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).

3. Shop at the KasShop!
