For the next two weeks, prior to the beginning of the next BIG SURPRISE CHALLENGE, we are giving you free reign to HAVE SOME FUN, while creating mucho squares!

BUT WAIT!  Hold your hat!  Or should I say; HOLD – THE – HATS!!

We have learned from Ronda and her crew that they have approximately 3 hats for every potential blanket!  We have been asked, for the time being, to please focus on squares rather than hats.  Might I suggest that, rather than making a hat, you make 3 squares instead?

As you can see from the photos that Ronda provided, they have A LOT of hats!

Lots of hats!

....and more hats!
SO MANY HATS!

SO, let's work on our fundamental purpose, MAKING SQUARES!!

As always, the greatest need is for plain jane squares!  But if you need some inspiration, here are some ideas for you!

Finish your UFOs (unfinished objects!)  If you are like me, you probably have a few partially done squares hiding away in your cupboards.  This is a great opportunity to finish up all of those squares that were started for a different challenge and never got finished!

Explore your creativity!  There are limitless possibilities for exploring your creativity.  Color is one of my favorite ways to do that!  Where to look?  A color wheel can help when trying new colors together!

Fabric can give you some great color combos; I love perusing the fabric store for ideas!

Pump out some major PJs!!!    Wouldn’t it be awesome to see stacks and stacks of plain janes?!?!  Check out Susan Haines’ stack of 88 squares!

I hope you have some fun with our “Un-challenge”!  I can’t wait to see what you create!!

Maggie, these ar!e just beautiful

Love your grannies, especially the window one!  Love that pink color you are using... so delicate.

These are so pretty, Maggie.  I love the delicate colours.  The foursome square makes me think of flowers.  Did you make four separate little squares,  then join them together?

This is the great thing about the "un-challenge" theme, THE opportunity to finish off squares :)))

These squares were made of wool bought in June this year in the woolshop at Terschelling, (where I bought the bear for charity too). The varigated squares are made of sockwool, I combined one strand of varigated and one strand of plain yarn. It is 75% wool so the "holes" around the popcorns are not a problem. The turquoise ones were made of left over yarn of the popcorn blanket. All squares can be combined together, even with the cerise colored squares, see uploaded pics of the September Challenge. So: lots of fun with mix and match in SA ;-)

I love the diagonal pattern for stash busting and I had to make at least one square for breast cancer awareness!

Okay, here are some more squares. Btw this is my first succesful diagional :) I tried the pattern again, and somehow it "clicked". I made it a little too small though, so had to sc around the edge. Thanks for this challenge Mary Anne, :).

Here is a square I made using instructions that Susan shared with me.  I hope I did it right.  Thank you, Susan xo

I guess I could say this is my attempt at an Anniversary Square since sharing is what KAS is all about  ... sharing with the beautiful children in SA, sharing friendship with all you wonderful and loving people in KASville, and sharing patterns, advice, and encouragement with each other.  Thank you all, and Happy Anniversary !!

Seven more - and the end of the orange and purple

My aim is NOT to buy any more wool this  month, so here are my first squares from an  overflowing  stockpile.

This is my 'un-challenge' - to turn this mess of odds and ends into squares! The box is overflowing!

Just moving this over from Photos

Unchallenge Squares

Added by Susan Haines on October 9, 2013

Here are three more unchallenge squares. The bottom one is actually a UFO, as I had left it laying around the house because I ran out of the marble yarn, so I decided to try white and Viola! It contrasts great :).
