Knit a Square moved into what we loving call The Barn in 2015.  It is located in Randburg, not far from our post office.  This is a very large space that allows us to sort all the post, make blanket packs, stack blankets, and most important create our wonderful KAS cakes.  Our volunteers show up on Tuesday morning around 9:00am and work their magic until about 3:00pm.  Themba has already collected the post, and often times will make a distribution on Tuesdays.

Please know that the Barn is a success due to all our contributors, financial donors and volunteers.  Without your ongoing support we would find it difficult to carry on.

Thank you all for everything.

Check in to this discussion frequently to see the latest news and photos from The Barn.  Many thanks to our marvelous reporter, Estelle for bringing the fun of The Barn to us.

Such good news that things seem to be getting back to normal. Post Office, here I come!

Estelle's wonderful report from May 24...

It was a quiet cold morning ( those concrete floors) in the barn today - no new post but we managed to have a show and tell with the blankets we brought in. There were a few parcels to open from our double delivery last week and great to see some new names.
Ronda hope you’re enjoying the beautiful Cape and your grandchildren.
Liz with her fabulous shades of mauve and purple blanket.
Friends helping each other laying out their blankets.Sheldon is so proud of his grans beautiful blankets - the gorgeous little tiger from Ada Breeuwer from The Netherlands.
And another one from Audrey and Ada - a cheeky crocodile.
I love your colour pallet Audrey.
A stunning vibrant coloured one from Liz with the dearest bunny from Ada.
Four fabulous blankets from my friends…from left to right Barbara, Mel and two from Marioth Brown.
Lovely soft squares from Clair Thompson from the UK.
A rainbow blanket for a rainbow nation. Thanks Pam Lawrence for these super squares.
From the two colour theme…thanks Beryl Bourne UK.
The first hoody I’ve come across…just look at the pockets to keep those little hands warm. Thank you Liz Pope from the UK.
Our Viv is always happy with piles of squares in front of her - she does make perfect bundles even if it takes a few weeks.
Thank you Carole Rawlings for these KAS cuddle bugs and the beanies.
Lindi you’re doing jolly well sizing those squares.
Packing blankets for Lizzie at the Lion Park settlement - hopefully Sheldon and I can get there soon. It’s terribly cold at the moment and our shelves are groaning with beautiful warm blankets.
Our Gogo bundles are growing slowly but we’ll get there!
We are ready for an influx of post.
All ready to leave and Viv showed us a hilarious video of senior citizens crossing the road. 😂🤣 a barrel of laughs our Viv.

Excellent,  thanks a lot for this update ✔️

Thank you for your photos. But I´d like to remark that a rabbit from TWO COLOUR THEME is mine not Beryl´s.

Thank you Karla for correctly identifying this precious bunny.

We do make mistakes, and really appreciate it when our members recognize their work and let us know.  We always try to get the identification correct.  We are so sorry for mislabeling this two toned bunny.  We will try to do better in the future.

That´s O.K., Amy. I know you have a lot to do with parcels and such mislabeling happens.

So sorry Karla and that’s such a super bunny. When I don’t open the parcels I’m never 100% sure who they come from thanks for letting us know, now we link your name to the finished blanket.

I spot "my" bunny, crocodile and tiger squares in really beautiful blankets. Thank you Audrey and Liz for making them! And thank you for showing in the Barn. Kids will love it!

So happy for you to get a glimpse of your beautiful work Ada.

It is so fun to see our work arrive in The Barn?  Many thanks to Estelle and the volunteers for sharing these images with us.

Your squares are a treat for us Ada…I love the cheeky crocodile! The children will be over the moon when they see these blankets.

The month of May ended with a large post and lost of fun in The Barn.

Three cheers to Estelle and the crew.

Opening Day at the KASbarn May 31 2022.
Another bitterly cold day at the barn however the pile of new post put a smile on everyone’s face. It was opened in record time which enabled us to photograph, pack and label blankets.
Beginning of the day...
...end of the day.
Now everything in between!
Antoinette a local, loyal KAS supporter dropped off beautiful blankets and squares from her prolific group during the week.
Beautiful blankets, squares and vests from Antoinette’s group.
Pearl collected the 50 blankets we packed for her last week she has promised to send us photographs of her distribution.
Great to see Leanne…the shelves are still loaded even though we sent 50 blankets with Pearl, Ronda packed 50 for Children’s Church and I took 50. We also have about 10bags x10 blankets each ready to go and 90 odd from Wilma and her friends from Spoor and Fisher. We are truly blessed with all the support and generosity we receive.
And Bongi.
Vibrant fabulous granny squares Leanne crocheted and stitched into this gorgeous blanket…she is holding the second blanket she made.
Meet Nkhensani the lady who keeps the barn clean.
Just look at all that new yarn.  This was purchase with donations made through the KAS Shop.  Please visit the Shop is you want to donate yarn.
A stunning blanket from Audrey…I wonder who crocheted the fabulous HOPE and LOVE squares. Please let us know if they are yours.
A delightful blanket from Sally Patterson.
And gorgeous toys from Sally Patterson.
Love this blanket of Ana’s with Marion Davies mother and baby Cheetahs…..one of the twenty Ana brought in today. Thanks for staying and helping with the post and back breaking folding and packing of blankets.
The dearest baby cardigans Audrey found in her pile of post today. Thank you S Topping from Northern Ireland.
This beautiful blanket was crocheted by a friend of Karen's. Here is the comment Karen made when she posted a pic of this beauty on the K-A-S forum. 'This is my friend Pat's 16th complete blanket made using leftovers from her previous projects.'
It takes total concentration to open a box with a sharp Stanley knife.
Yay you did it Viv.
Lovely to see Wandi back in the barn… Lindi agrees.
Ronda made delicious scones for our tea this morning -
what was the secret ingredient Viv?
A thank you letter from Lizzy from The Lion Park Informal Settlement.
Ronda had a visitor who is starting an NGO and would like to distribute some KAS blankets…the sooner we get the blankets to the children in this weather the better.

Thank you so much for this coverage.   I could see a parcel I had mailed amongst the first pile,  and I'm overjoyed to see that you have shown Pat's blanket.  She's unwell currently and seeing this picture has lifted her spirits..... ✔️✔️✔️.    The colours and variety amongst every tableful is a delight to behold.

CREATECARE GLOBAL

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."

Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
