I learned to Knit and Crochet when I was about eight years old. I am so-so, but I love it and the activity has helped me through several crises in my life. I am an empty nester now, will turn 58 on Monday, I work full time at an agency as a Case Manager for a human service program. I have a lot of free time after work and was trying to find something to do. The agency also has a Teen Program and the program manager suggested that I teach the teens to Knit. There are about 35 youth in the program and I have done work with the group before so I agreed. While plan for the group I search the web to see if I could find simple instructions to copy off for the kids. The first site I pulled up was Squarecircle and it is just what we need for my project to be a great success. I have been working with six of the youth for two weeks now and all of them are on their way to knitting their first square. Once this group has the skill we will add more learners to the group and kids that have this skill will be peer helpers. I am really looking forward to the time we are ready to send our first squares. This is a very exciting venture and I am so thankful that I located this site. Now the kids will learn a skill and do a service for other in the process. We would have never known the need if it hadn't been for some else’s desire to service and share. Thanks and I am glad to be a part of the project.

  • Susan,
So glad that you have found us! I think you will find knitting with the teens to be very rewarding. Please keep us posted and share some pics if you can.

Happy birthday a few days early!
  • Hi Susan:  Great!!!  My daughter lives by Grayslake, IL, north east of Chicago.  Are you anywhere near?  Good luck with your students - we'll look forward to GREAT results!!  Laurie
    • Chicago is about 41/2 hour from Quincy. We visit the city often. Quincy is on the west side of the state. I say that Quincy is the belly button of the state because of the way the state protrudes out like a belly right there.
