Hi

My name is Carol Hislop.  I leave near Glasgow and I'm the mother of 2 teenagers and a twenty one year old.  I hadn't knitted since my children were very young but I was inspired to start again when I stumbled over the KAS website a few months ago.  Now I knit most evenings and absolutely love it.  I have to travel quite a bit for my work (I'm an auditor working for the Scottish government) and I take my knitting with me and it really helps to pass the time in the evenings.  I started doing quite plain squares but now I'm trying different patterns.  I think that KAS is a fantastic idea and seems to help lots of people.  Along with helping the little children, I imagine that the ladies who do the sewing must get a lot of satisfaction from the task and I know that I get a great deal of enjoyment out of knitting the squares and I'm looking forward to continuing with the knitting!

Thanks to everyone at KAS for all your hard work and for giving me a new hobby!

  • Welcome Carol. I'm same as you....starting knitting again after many years. Now I'm happily addicted to knitting squares! Happy knitting.
  • I agree with you Carol. I am doing MUCH more crocheting now than I used to. I couldn't figure out what to do or why...I needed a "cause", a reason to do it and KAS has sure delivered that in spades. As knitting and crocheting are considered excellent "destressors", I guess we're putting a ding into the profit margins of the companies that make tranquilizers but I'm good with that. ;)

p.s. I'm Ontario, Canada but born in Yorkshire, lived in Birmingham til we emigrated when I was 5 1/2. Been back across the Pond a few times. Cheerio!
  • nice to meet you, Carol.

  • Welcome, Carol! It's nice to meet you. You will probably find this site as addictive as knitting! Thank you so much for your dedication. :o)
    • Hi Carol and welcome. There seem to be quite a few of us who have a similar experience to you and are pleased to be able to rekindle an old interest and put it to good use. As Andrea said, the site itself can become addictive but it is always inspirational, supportive and friendly.
You'd be very welcome to join the UK group if you feel like it and/or Stitch for Scotland.
