Hello dearest KAS members

We have a new challenge for you for May and June. There is an opportunity in South Africa for a truck to be driven up to Zimbabwe filled with squares. Now we just need the squares to fill it. Mother of Peace in Zimbabwe will sew the squares into blankets and give them to children who are in such desperate need.

An exciting prospect and we need MASSES of squares to make it happen. So here's what you do: knit squares, lots of them! Address them to the same address:

Bryanston 2021

South Africa

Please mark them clearly as "SQUARES FOR ZIMBABWE" and there you have it. Children in Zimbabwe will be warmed and feel your love. Please keep a tally as we did for the bus challenge. Thanks everyone, and good luck!

I have been sick for a bit so I haven't been in this forum much. I'm moving soon but will get knitting again in June and send along a batch of squares as soon as I can.

I have just recently joined inon this but have a good many squares made. Love a challenge and especially one that is for such a good cause! Count me in.

Another 12 to be added from Whiterose Group St. Albans!  Total now stands at :

1138  squares

143 hats

I agree with you Barbara - if they take a very long time, will they catch the truck? I don't think that items necessarily take as long as it appears. From emails I received I know that some of my goods at least arrived within six weeks and the apparent delay is probably the time it takes to open parcels and record which presumably won't happen to the packets marked for Zimbabwe? They'll be used somewhere anyway so I will add a donation of 100 squares plus 35 of mine:

                                      1273   squares

                                        143   hats

You can include a little note inside the package with your email address on it if you wish.  Bear in mind it's all volunteers in South Africa and they're often rushed for time.  They need full time assistants but as yet we can't afford to pay anyone a stipend to help out.  So often, needing to get the squares into blankets to get to the children, the notifying of the donors is put aside.  We ask everyone for patience as the time spent in notification is time spent not sorting the squares and distributing the blanket packs to be sewn up.  There is, still in the works, a bar code system, that will allow almost instant notification.  It will be up and running as soon as possible, given we're all volunteers with other things ongoing in our lives as well.  I really do suggest putting your email in a note inside the package, it'll help. :)

Hi Barbara

Unfortunately we don't have time to email every donor with confirmation of receipt, that is why we do the square lists. I'm surprised that you haven't seen your packages on the lists? We have had very few parcels go missing so I'm sure your parcels are arriving.

I will be receiving the new lists from Ronda at some stage soon so keep an eye out!

Kalai is going to get back to us re: the truck and timing. I have the same problem! I'm still going to send some squares ASAP though, marked with "Squares for Zimbabwe". :o)
I sent 2 packages last week, one by surface mail as per usual and the other marked Zimbabwe and by airmail, so hopefully some will get to the truck on time! :)

41 squares getting posted tomorrow.

1314 squares

Hi everyone

Ronda is in Cape Town at the moment. She'll be back next week and I'll let you know what she has to say. In the meantime, please just keep those squares and hats coming, no matter what happens they will be used!

Hi All:  Am mailing my "inspired by a Kente cloth" pattern I saw, I have 35 more squares to send this week.  So,

1349 squares

143 hats

Laurie

Hi All

Have just hear back from Ronda. Firstly, she says not to fret about your squares getting here in time because she will be able to get the squares to Zimbabwe any because her husband's company often sends stuff to ZIm and there will be room in those trucks.

Secondly we have a cousin Tracy in Zimbabwe who is eager to get on board with KAS as well as Mother of Peace so there are going to be many a helping hand.

Carry on making and sending squares to Zimbabwe with the knowledge that they will get there whether it's in the first truck or not.

Cheers and thank you all!
