Hello dearest KAS members

We have a new challenge for you for May and June. There is an opportunity in South Africa for a truck to be driven up to Zimbabwe filled with squares. Now we just need the squares to fill it. Mother of Peace in Zimbabwe will sew the squares into blankets and give them to children who are in such desperate need.

An exciting prospect and we need MASSES of squares to make it happen. So here's what you do: knit squares, lots of them! Address them to the same address:

Please mark them clearly as "SQUARES FOR ZIMBABWE" and there you have it. Children in Zimbabwe will be warmed and feel your love. Please keep a tally as we did for the bus challenge. Thanks everyone, and good luck!

The squares and hats left-over from the Bus Challenge have started the new tally, Mary K-Lokken has 40 to be added, and, our Whiterose Group has 12 being posted this week.

Have gone through the comments and the new totals for this challenge are (I think) :

Squares : 425

Hats : 137

Time to get cracking!

woo we have been trying to reach zimbabwe for some time, its pretty awesome to drop in on the forums and find that we are actually making it happen!
Love the challenge idea! I've started back on squares, and sweaters for soft toys in between!

The Knit Wits at Rolling Hills Community Church  in Lago Vista, Texas, mailed 270 squares and 5 hats on May 2.  We did not know about the ZIMBABWE challenge so did not write that on the package, but we would like to help fill up the truck and warm the children there with our squares.

That would make the new totals 695 squares and 142 hats :-)

Winter is coming....we are knitting and crocheting as fast as we can!

Marietta I'm pretty darned certain your squares will go on that truck!  What a phenomenal gift from your Church ladies....high fives to all of you!  You're quite right about winter coming, I must get going this week myself on some squares.  Again, DO thank them for us, that's fabulous! :D
Have some lovely bright coloured wools and can't wait to start clicking the needles!!
Kalai can you tell us a little about "Mother of Peace" who you said will be stitching the squares together in Zimbabwe? And will things be going to one specific orphanage or to children out on the street as well? I think you can see we are all pretty interested in the whole project! Clicking away here in wet Wales xx

I am sending 10 squares so the totals are now:

 705 squares and 142 hats

Wow, so many so fast.  This is awesome. :D

Brilliant news, Oaklands School in Loughton, Essex have added another 400 squares to their original figure of 1500 (added to the Feb-Apr challenge), therefore the new total is :

1105 squares and 142 hats

Thanks very much to Hayley Poulton for co-ordinating the involvement of these caring children - what  a great example to others!

sending today;  9 squares and 1 hat, so total is now

1114 squares and 143 hats

:)

Are your squares all wool?

:)
