The May 2013 Square Heart Award goes to:
Susan Haines
of Knoxville, Tennessee
Susan joined KAS in August 2009. She is a consistent producer of the "Plain Jane" square, making piles of squares so neat that other members just wish their own could be so tidy!
Susan's squares are not so plain! Each one is unique in that the patterns, colors, and textures vary.
Susan is also an extremely active member of the KAS forum, intervening often with kind words of encouragement to other members.
Thank you, Susan, for everything you do for KAS!

A very deserving recipient ! Susan, you have warmed many children over the years and you definitely need to be recognized. The people who knit/crochet Plain Janes play a very important role in KAS.
Congratulations Susan! I love your squares! Just how many blankets have you made? Do you know? Well done for winning the award you are very deserving!
Thank you so much, Sue. I've only done about 25 blankets worth of squares altogether, and I know so many of the folks in KAS have done so many more! I must admit, I do a lot more now than in my earlier days, as I was also looking after my mother who suffered from ALZ, and that took up a lot of my time as she could get into trouble with a quickness! Whew! Of course, for a while there, she would also knit along with me! So I've mailed in another 8 or 10 blankets worth of squares for her, as well. But since things have slowed down a bit for me, I generally spend every night resting in front of the TV with needles in hand! It's as therapeutic for me, as it is warming for the kids! I'm just amazed I would be so honored! I truly am very touched by this selection. I've been thinking of contacting the apartment manager where my mother used to live. It was for the elderly, and I thought that maybe I could set up a time to go over there a few times a month and help them knit squares and supply them with needles and yarn. I know my mother was so proud to be useful, and her friends would marvel at her knitting away. I'll let you know how it goes.
That's awsome Susan ! Good luck with the "old folks" knitiing. I guess with ALZ there will be a few dropped stitches but who cares !
This message of yours just proves how deserving you are of the award. I'm sure the elderly people would welcome the chance to be useful and needed.
Congratulations on winning this, Susan! Your squares are really lovely!
Congratulations Susan! As Anne has said, you truly embody what KAS is all about. Sending warm hugs and many thanks for all you do!
Beautiful squares!
Well done Susan.
Many congratulations Susan! So well deserved! You are one of the friends who inspired me to KNIT a square from time to time because yours all look and are so beautiful. xoxo
