Linda Maltby’s Crochet Striped Go-Over


Size 4-6
4.50 mm hook
4.00 mm hook
Yarn colours of your choice
Pattern is worked in one piece from the neck down. Change colours as you wish to create stripes.
Neckline:
Row 1: Ch 63, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, and each ch across.
ch 2, turn. (counts as 1st hdc in next row ) 61 sts.
Row 2: 1 hdc in next 9 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 9 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 21 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 9 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 10 sts to end. ch 2, turn.
Row 3: 1 hdc in next 10 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 11 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 23 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 11 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 11 sts to end. ch 2, turn.


Row 4: 1 hdc in next 11 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 13 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 25 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 13 sts, 3 hdc in next st (corner made)
1 hdc in next 12 sts to end. ch 2, turn.
Repeat row 4 continue increasing at each corner until G-O measure 5" from neck. (this is the front opening allowance)At the end of the row join to the beginning of the row with sl st.( making circle ). End off
Triangle pattern:
Colour A
Colour B
Rnd 1: Starting at underarm with colour A, Ch2, hdc in each stitch remembering to increase at the corners.
Rnd 2: With colour A. Ch2, hdc in first 2 st, attach colour B, hdc in next st, Follow AABAABAABAAB pattern to end of row. (at corners continue in AAB pattern)Turn. Ch 2 (Note: it is important to turn at this point so the pattern makes the triangles.)
Rnd 3: With colour A hdc in first st, Change to colour B, hdc in next 2 sts. Follow ABBABBABBABBABB pattern to end of row. (at corners continue in ABB pattern). Cut off colour A, leaving length to tuck in.
Rnd 4: Using colour B, Ch 2, hdc in each stitch remembering to increase at each corner. (Triangle pattern complete )
Continue increasing at corners until G-O measures 7" from shoulder to underarm. Armhole:
Ch2. hdc in stitches to middle stitch of 3 hdc group, ch 2, skip sts in between until the next corner. Hdc in middle st of 3 hdc group and across to next corner. Ch 2, skip sts in between to the next corner. Hdc across to end.
Body:
Continuing to work in a circle.
Rnd 1: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first st.
Repeat rnd 1 until Go-Over measures 16". It will be approximately 1" longer than width at underarms
Add stripe pattern as desired
Sleeve:
Round 1: With right side facing. Join with sl stitch in middle stitch at bottom of armhole. Ch1, sc in same stitch as join. Sc in all stitches around. Join with sl st.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch . Sc in next stitches around.
Repeat round 2 until sleeve measures 14" from underarm.
Cuff:
Change to 4.00 mm hook
Rnd 1: Join at any stitch in underarm, sc 2tog around, repeat around opening. Join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2:.Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Repeat until cuff measures 1-2 " wide.
Repeat for other sleeve.
Finishing: Sc around neckline and front opening.
If adding a button make a loop (using chain st) on the opposite side of the opening to accommodate the button.
Tuck in all ends.
Note: If you wish to add triangles in the opposite direction at the bottom of the G-O, repeat the pattern given above.

        There are two of these because I made up the pattern and tried it twice to make sure it worked. (I forgot to write down the instructions so I had to spend my time counting stitches anyway !!!) Hope everything is correct. Let me know if there are any problems:-)
