We are a group based in Skipton, North Yorkshire.  Our aim is to promote Knitting in our local community while supporting and promoting the work done by KASCare.

The first thing we did was to create our own website www.knittingforafrica.co.uk

We attended an open day on the 18th October where we recruited new volunteer Knitters and also raised some much need funds to help cover the postage.

We have also started visiting Sheltered Housing Schemes in our local area to provide the opportunity for elderly people to support KASCare.  The first of our visits took place on the 24th October and was a Great Success.  The plan is to involve other members of the community by providing this visiting scheme.

As a group we are also hoping to start 'Knit and Natter' Groups in our local area where we will meet to socialize share ideas and tips and also provide the opportunity for non-knitters to learn to knit.

We have set a challenge of send out 200 squares by the end of the year which we are WELL on target to reach (We are hoping to beat it!).

If you would like to become involved visit our website or contact us on info@knittingforafrica.co.uk

  • Happy New Year

Sorry I have not updated this blog for a while, this was due to family commitments.

I would like to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU! to everyone that has helped us to achieve our 2012 Target. We more than doubled the amount of squares we wanted to send :D 416 in total have been sent .

For 2013 we are hoping to expand our charity work and are looking to support other Orphan charities and some UK charities to.

The article in the Knitting Magazine has been a great success and is continuing to generate more support for the work we are doing. There will be a meeting of the KFA Committee in the very near future where we will decide what other charities we are going to support.

We will continue our support or KasCare and a 2013 Target will be set at the meeting. Thanks once again for you support and lets make 2013 an even better Knitting Year !

    • Great total, Heidi. Your support and that of KFA is very much appreciated.  :o)

  • What a great idea to involve the Elderly as well! You create a win-win situation for everybody like this :) Natter groups are brilliant. We had our first two weeks ago and it was a huge success. Good luck!

  • Oh My Goodness I am so EXCITED!

Last month I was contacted by the Editor of a Knitting Magazine asking if we would like to feature in the next edition. Of course we accepted the offer and sent them the relevant information.

Today I received an email informing me that there will be a piece about KFA in the next edition of the magazine !!

    Well done to everyone involved!

Here is the link to the magazine involved.

  • Knitting for Africa - November Challenge!

    Triangle Squares!

The pattern for this months Knitting for Africa challenge is now on our

    website: http://www.knittingforafrica.co.uk/patterns/

Once you've had a go at the challenge, it would be great to see your photo of them!

Post them on here or on the Knitting For Africa forums or both :)

    • Hi Simon

Just a couple of comments on 2 of the patterns you have on your web site, as some knitters may be confused.

Plain Square - Does not mention yarn thickness required. I am assuming chunky

Pop Corn Square - Says cast on 52 sts. Stitch pattern will not work with a even number of stitches. It would need to be an odd number.

      • Hi Jan

Thanks for highlighting these errors.  This is my mistake and I will update the patterns ASAP.
