KAS SNIPPETS - JUNE 2022

DISTRIBUTIONS

With winter arriving in the Southern hemisphere, the KAS distributions have increase to wrap children in warm blankets.

The distribution discussion is where all the pictures and stories from these distributions can be found. Estelle, Sheldon, Wandi, Viv and other have had a very busy June visiting creches.

See all the photos from April through June here.

LIKE NIGHT AND DAY

This month, June, Patricia has taken us on of journey of Night and Day, light and dark or opposites on the color wheel.

There have truly been some amazing creations by members.  Please visit the discussion to see more.

The Color of the Month has been turquoise.

WINTER TEMPERATURES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Here is a graph of the average temperatures in Soweto.  Remember the children have not electricity, running water and often sleep on dirt floors.

They may have a fire for warmth and we know a KAS blanket is warm, soft and makes a big difference.

Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion 3C = 37.4F degrees

THE BLANKET ROOM

With the post coming into The Barn again the blankets have been stacking up, filling the shelves and then heading right out the door to distributions.

See the colorful photos from our notorious Blanket Cake in this discussion.

THE BARN

The Barn has been a beehive of activity as the post is once again arriving in a full KAS Van and the volunteers have been sorting, labeling, packing gogo packs and blanket distribution packs.

The shelves fill up only to be emptied for upcoming distribution.

Read all about the busy bees here.

JULY THEME/COM

THINGS THAT MOVE

Car, planes, rocket, trains, boats and so much more.  This month we will look as all things that move.

The Color of the Month is...

Orange.

In July, South Africa celebrates former President Nelson Mandela's birthday. 18 July has been declared Nelson Mandela International Day, but as South Africans we embrace the chance to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life for the whole of July. This gives everyone the opportunity to heed the call to action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and change the world around them.

A global movement for positive change begins with small actions. As each person acts, they fuel momentum toward positive change, raising awareness and expanding the reach of Mr. Mandela’s values – fighting injustice, helping people in need and practicing reconciliation.

  • Yes, the temperature graph is very helpful.  That's awfully chilly to sleep on a dirt floor with no heat or electricity or running water either.  Thank you for reminding us how very blessed we are!

  • Thanks so much, Amy, for this great recap.  Thank you for including the temperature chart to show just how cold it can get.  Nobody should have to sleep in those temps without a blanket!  I'm so thankful for the opportunity to wrap a child in warmth through KAS ... xo
