Hello all - What do you think about linking together while we are all separated by covid-19?
How about a KAS KAL?
What is a KAS KAL? You ask....... Well........ KAL stands for Knit Along. It is a time when we are all working in a similar piece of knitting and can ask each other for help, share photos of how we are doing, encourage each other........ and learn how to do some of the KAS patterns as well as using up some of our stash.
I have designed a blanket that we can all work on, one square at a time. It will be a fun way to learn about Plain Janes, Diagonal Squares, Stripes, Framed Squares and Mitre Squares......all at our own pace, and all explained really simply, with lots of opportunity for anyone to ask for help or clarification as well.
I propose that we start this on May Day and we end it..... when we finish!
This is suitable for all of us. That means that some of us, who are
experienced or confident knitters may be able to get through it.
relatively quickly. Others who are working from home, juggling
work and kids, or just not very experienced or not very confident
about knitting may want to take a little longer to work through it.
I hope some of you will feel able to join in - keep your eyes peeled for further information before we start!

When you slip the first stitch at the edge of a square it makes a V shape on the edge that makes it easier to join the squares, right? QUESTION: when you join the squares edges, do you put the needle through both of the sides of the V or only under one strand of the yarn of the side stitch?
I agree - I have so enjoyed seeing the different colours people have used and how well their squares have turned out!
Thank you - it is what it is and we just have to keep ploughing through until the end of the furrow!! I do appreciate people's kind comments though.
I personally put the needle through both threads of the V.
The edging allows for those who can or would like to, to crochet the squares together, which I am given to understand is faster than sewing....... I am afraid that my crochet is not yet of a standard that will allow me to try it and see.

Thanks for the new square pattern, Rebecca. I got a bit carried away with the last pattern and made several extra mitred squares just for fun! So sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope your dog is doing better. Tough times all round.
Hello, all ... It has been months since I was online with KAS ... a story for another time, perhaps. But for now, let me start by extending my Thanks to Rebecca for this wonderful idea, but also my sympathy to learn of difficulties and loss in your family. Keep on keeping on, girl, and know that we are with you in spirit.
I am also here today to represent Gloria Grandy (big shoes to fill, but I will make an attempt). Gloria's husband had emergency surgery last weekend. He is doing much better now, but he can't drive for 4 weeks. They are at their cottage, without internet, so Gloria is unable to comment or post pictures right now. However, she says she will catch up when she is able. She has finished her striped diagonals and will post pictures when she can. She asked that I send along to her (via text) the newest pattern so she can keep working on the KAL.
Keep up the good work, everyone, and take care all!
Sharon, I was so glad to see your name pop up - I've been quite concerned that we hadn't heard from you for such a long time. Please send my best wishes to Gloria when you contact her next.
Oh my goodness life does throw us all some curve balls here and there - I'm so sorry to read about this please pass my kind thoughts and regards along too. X
Thank You, Patricia and Karen. I will definitely pass your good wishes along to Gloria and Don.
I've just read all through this dialog, and can't help but think that i must get started with these squares. (Of course, I already have 4 other projects intended for KAS in the works!) All your beautiful work is just too inspiring to resist, so ... watch this space!
The Donate button provides 2 options:
Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more]. Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees. Thank you!
Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:
1. Make a donation whenever you are able.
2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).
3. Shop at the KasShop!
