KAS FINANCES - URGENT APPEAL
APPEAL FOR DISTRIBUTION FUNDS
Ronda has been in touch to let us know her concerns regarding the lack of funds in the KAS bank account. Ronda urgently requires funds to be able to carry out the winter distributions to the children, these distributions are due to start within the next few weeks before the weather becomes too cold.
Here is a message direct from Ronda;
“Sadly the flood was costly in terms of cleaning costs and re-organising the office so that nothing stands on the floor, ie. bringing in a whole bunch of shipping pallets etc. Not to mention room and fabric sprays to help with the appalling smell of damp wool which seemed not to go away despite our running all the room fans for two solid weeks!!!
In Rand terms it costs us between R30,000 and R35,000 per month to run KAS. That would be approximately $2600 or £2100 at current exchange rates. We have been receiving between $800 - $1500 via PAYPAL for many months now, so have eaten into our reserves each month. We have approximately 12 regularly monthly donors The bank account it is the lowest it has been in many years ”
As you can see there is a huge shortfall each month between the amount of money it takes to run KAS and the amount Ronda receives via PayPal donations. Today we are launching an appeal on behalf of Ronda to raise urgently needed distribution funds. Without these funds KAS cannot complete its wonderful work.

Going forward...... What can we do ?
As some of our older forum members will be aware, we have had to request for funds previously. Since moving into rental premises, KAS outgoings have increased, but so has KAS and it is not practical or realistic for KAS to be run from Ronda's home. Unfortunately grants are not easily obtainable. Ronda and her team are doing their best to try and win these and also search for cheaper premises. But both are not easy tasks.
Can you imagine what a relief it would be to Ronda and her team if we could all sign up to a monthly donation of $5,this would give her the stability. KAS operates on a shoestring budget and not a penny is wasted. Every penny really counts.
Look at how many forum member we have and if we all gave $5 dollars a month just imagine how many children Ronda could help and the security it would give KAS to keep going. So please ,please , please can you consider doing this.
We all know that KAS really does make a difference on the ground to these children.KAS Supplied blankets to 6000 children last year.
And finally .....
If any forum members have any ideas to help raise funds these would be welcomed by the Moderators. Please share on the discussion below or contact a moderator directly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and your support. Together we can help and make a difference to these children's lives.

Thank you for this excellent report on KAS finances, Sharon.
It is a good reminder that making and sending squares is only part of any member's commitment to KAS. Without funds coming in, Ronda and team cannot carry on the vital work of distributing our blankets.
Many members are operating on a fairly strict budget and with rising postage costs, feel the pinch. However, when you stop to think about it, a $5 per month subscription will not likely break any budget. It equates to a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in a local coffee shop once a month. It equates to one 7 oz. ball of yarn.
We would need a lot of members donating $5 per month to cover all of Ronda's expenses. Some members may feel they can give more - $10, $15 or even a larger sum. Whatever any of us can donate as an ongoing monthly sum will give Ronda and Team the financial stability they need to keep going.
It really is so easy! By signing up for a monthly subscription on Paypal, you can just forget about it and the small sum appears on your credit card each month. No need to remember to send a one-off donation, or wonder if you have 'a bit extra' this month to send to KAS.
I was shocked to read that there are currently only 12 people signed up for 'ongoning monthlies'. I also feel guilty that I have let my own subscription lapse, so I will be signing up again today.
Let's hope that all Forum members and Facebook readers will read this appeal and sign up for subscriptions of whatever amount they can afford.
Sharon, thank you for posting this appeal and making us aware of the financial crisis Ronda is facing in SA.
Anne, Thank you for your wonderful response to this appeal, as a long-standing member of KAS you are well aware of the increasing financial difficulties that have been placed on Ronda and the team due to the massive growth in the number of people sending squares to KAS.
If everyone of the 10,000 KAS forum members bought just one $5 item from the KAS shop it would raise enough money to enable Ronda and the team to distribute more than the 6000 blankets they distributed last year.
If every forum member signed up to a $5 monthly subscription Ronda would never have to resort to appealing for money ever again and would be able to help so many more desperate children.
I'm off to sign up, ladies please feel free to join me. :)))
Done! :-)
Thanks Pam for everything you and Elaine do for KAS xo
Sharon, thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. As Anne has said, it is a good reminder that there is more to wrapping a cold child in a warm blanket than just making and sending squares! Ronda has committed to distributing blankets on our behalf, and she needs financial help to accomplish that.
As you have pointed out, there are several ways to help. All we need to do is choose one and do it!
Sharon,
Thanks for this report.
Have just transferred £60 via paypal to ronda@knit-a-square.com
I have a lot of yarn, (bits & bobs) so instead of buying anymore yarn, will use them up making handwarmers and maybe the odd square.

I was just thinking the same thing Diane--instead of buying another skein of yarn for our stashes, roughly $5 a skein, we could donate it instead. Easy way to raise some funds and reduce our stashes at the same time!
Jeanne, you have just made a brilliant suggestion! I have just sent Ronda the equivalent in $$ of a Caron Cake ... which I have enough of at the moment :))) xo
The Donate button provides 2 options:
Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more]. Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees. Thank you!
Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:
1. Make a donation whenever you are able.
2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).
3. Shop at the KasShop!
