The Knit-a-square program has inspired volunteers in more than 60 countries to knit and crochet more than 1.5 million blanket squares, hats, hand-warmers and toys. Your efforts are helping to keep the children warm but to keep this operation running every day, we need to extend your love and support.

Your donations are the backbone of financial support for the operations on the ground in South Africa, making it possible for them to continue.

Whether it's helping to pay the rent, a stipend for the gogos to sew blankets, fuel for the KasVan or to cover postal charges of $3.75 US per parcel, you make it possible to keep striving toward warming and comforting the children.

Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with.

You can:

1. Make a donation whenever you are able.

2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).

3. Shop at the KasShop!

A note from Ronda:

"We are in total lockdown now, for three weeks from 26th March to 16th April.

Possibly longer, since it is virtually impossible for the informal settlement residents to practice social distancing.

The government is doing its best (better late than never perhaps) but the housing infrastructure is not functional, and they are now bundling people into makeshift shelters.

It is too painful to watch … all we can do is pray.

KAS is completely shut down until 5th May – maybe longer depending on the status after this official lockdown is over.

Our Sowetan board members are at risk in their residential areas and even though they all live in brick houses – their residences are cheek by jowl with the informal dwellers.

Peter and I are blessed. Our young neighbour will do a weekly grocery shop for us and we can occupy our time preparing for our move, which may now only take place around end June.

Not a priority at this stage !!

Praying for your safety and that of all our much loved friends and contributors worldwide.

P.S. I SHOULD have added … what an absolutely INCREDIBLE show of generosity and love this list portrays, from our PAYPAL contributors.

We are greatly humbled by the support of every single person involved."

Here is the expenses breakdown for February:

Here is the KasShop report for March.

Thanks to two extremely generous donations, Ronda has $764.72 waiting for her when the team are able to get back into the KasBarn. Thank you to everyone who donated in these trying, stressful and uncertain times.

The financials have been updated above.

A short message from Ronda:

"Quite a big loss shown this month which will adjust back a bit in April with no activity taking place.

Our exchange rate at the moment favours bigger PAYPAL payouts, too – not sure how long that will last.

Thank you all again, SO much, for the wonderful support you give us in every possible way – we are blessed by each and every one of you."

Here is the KasShop report for April.

It was a bit of a slow month with $167.70 in sales, not surprising considering everything that has been going on. But, as Ronda said above, we'll bounce back and the exchange rate for PayPal has been in our favour.

On a positive note, we've given away 19 copies of the first annual KAS Recipe Book! If you haven't picked up your copy yet, head over to the KasShop and download one today. Available in both 8.5"x11" and A4 formats.

The financials have been updated above.

A message from Ronda:

"A very weird month – only one petty cash entry – rental, gratuity and outreach payments and not much more.

I think May will be similar, without even the outreach expenses !

But we are putting safety first and extremely grateful that we are not part of the workforce any longer.

This is a very tough time for business and it is being forecast that unemployment will be up from 24 to 30% in SA before long.

Thanks for your help and support always."

Of course, Ronda and her team have been back in the KasBarn since this report but this helps to explain the zeroes we see in the expenses breakdown:

Here is the KasShop report for May.

We totaled $548.50 this month! Every penny/pence/Rand/etc. counts – please remember that the KasShop is always open and has a lot on offer.

I hope that expenses have all been covered this month

The financials have been updated above.

Due to a 50% reduction in rent due to COVID-19 and a decrease in expenses, we gained on that blue income line last month. These funds will really help when Ronda and her team are able to get back into the KasBarn on a permanent basis and distributions can resume.

Here is the belated KasShop report for June.

Even though things are up in the air at this time, your donations have been received and are appreciated. The KasShop made $206.14 this month. Every little bit helps!

The financials have been updated above.

A note from Ronda:

"Paypal donations slowing down a lot, but it’s entirely to be expected and we are staying within budget for a change anyway.

July accounts will be interesting.

Things are exploding (imploding ?)  Covid-wise in SA and aside from moving house Peter and I need to keep ourselves pretty much locked down for the next 3-6 months … at our age !

Having said that, a few of us will meet at the KASbarn next week to take photographs of the blanket cake, tidy up and sort out the few bags and boxes of squares I have been collecting – and accepting delivery of - over the past few weeks. We are to receive squares from Namibia next week by courier and I think that may be a “FIRST” – countrywise !  Can’t keep KAS down for long !!!!"

Here is the expenses breakdown for June:

Thanks, Andrea - good to know the budget is on the right side.

Do we know if the Bryanston Post Office is open again yet - while parcels from overseas are still in lockdown, I'd like to post my pre-virus (inland) parcel as soon as possible - only a couple of blankets and some squares and toys, but as we always say, every little helps!

Yes Lesley, the post office is open and Ronda has a way to pick it up.

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."
