Hi everyone, I'm a 20 year old Textile crafts student from Bradford, and I am so excited to get knitting and making a difference. Just recently I've been having some problems with myself, and I realised how massively unfulfilled I was by just knitting to sell my hand made phone socks and such, and I feel I've been given a gift that compels me to make a difference on a big scale. I first researched volunteering opportunities locally, but then realised I could probably put my skill to good use! I stumbled across KasCare and was immediately touched by this wonderful idea. Being brought up by my Grandmother, and being on course made up of mostly knitters gives me a great opportunity to spread the word and get more people knitting for this wonderful cause.

Thank you so much KasCare for giving me a reason to carry on.

  • Oh that sounds nice!

Do you live with your Gran?

How long will you have to study, till you have finished?

What would you like to work as later?

I work in a Kindergarden and have been there for about 8 years:-)

I live together with my boyfriend in Senden a small town near Münster, which is the twin city to York:-)

    Rachel xx

    • Hi again Rachel, sorry for the late reply, I've been away visiting my boyfriend for the week and I've only just got home!

I've lived with my Nan and Grandad pretty much all my life, and they're pretty wonderful. I've got 2 years left at uni, but I love my course so much, I'll be pretty sad when it comes to leaving! I think my dream job is probably to open a knitting inspired tea shop with my best friend, we've talked about it for a long time.

Your job sounds lovely, I'm assuming Kindergarden is like nursery in England? I tried working with children for work experience a few years ago, and couldn't handle the pressure at all!

Look forward to hearing from you :) xx

      • Hi Toni!

Yes your right,Kindergarden is like a nursery in England.

Working with children is a lovely thing but as you say not easy!

Problem is many people think it`s just playing all day and drinking coffee:-(

But of course there is more to that:-)

        Your dream sounds cool!

        What do you knit?

My Mum used to knit lots of jumpers and cardigans for me and my younger brother when we were children.

Now she also knits for KAS and lovely baby jackets for friends:-)

At the moment she is busy with knitting a cardigan for me:-)

I`m not that good at it:-(

I knit squares, hats ,scarfs and I`ve recently knitted dolls clothes as I own a dolls collection:-)

        Where does your boyfriend live?

        Have you been dating long?

I`m off work for 3 weeks now as I´m on holiday:-)

        Have a nice day!xx

        • Here's me interjecting... In North America, Kindergarten is the first introduction to school for children. In Canada, we have junior and senior kindergarten. After that, it's Grade 1. :o)
        • Haha yes being an art student does get a similar stereotype, people often think we're lazy which isn't at all true!

I knit all sorts, scarves, clothes, phone socks, and at the moment, mainly squares for KAS. I've just been to a coffee morning at my church, that was set up purely for KAS, so all the ladies were sat knitting squares, which was really wonderful!

I'm sure with practice you'll become better, I now do it at University so I need to practice as much as possible!

He lives in Oxford, which is quite a way away from me, because we met at Uni. We've been together nearly 10 months and he's lovely! :)

Oh a 3 week holiday will be lovely, being a student I get a LOT of time off haha. Which of course, will be used mainly to knit squares! :D

You have a nice day too! :) xx

          • Oh that sounds nice about the coffee morning at church:-)

Are you doing multi colored squares ore uni?

I recently bought some cheap wool which is pink and sort of a rainbow pink and lilac, very pretty!

I don`t find it so easy to get the right size though:-(

Usually 32 stitches fit but sometimes it seems too wide..

Yes I`m knitting a lot now too n my holiday, but yesterday I bought some wool to knit a baby hat as the sister of my boyfriend is expecting:-)

We are going to visit her in September when the little one arrives:-)

She lives in the east of Germany so that`s quite a way to go..

Yes I guess Oxford is pretty far away..Do you meet a lot?

We have been together for 5 years now:-)Last Year we eventually moved together:-)

Hope my English is ok as I don`t speak it much any more..

            Rachel xx

            • The coffee morning went brilliantly! We all sat around knitting and drinking tea, it was brilliant. We've got 25 squares now! :D Also, if you struggle to get the right size, one of the lovely ladies at church taught me how to make them the perfect size, if you start with just 2 stitches, and increase 1 at the beginning of every row until the edge measures 8 inches, then decrease every row, it makes a perfect 8 inch square! Magic :D

Ahh I have a huge wool stash, I'm currently trying to organise it into fancy yarns that aren't snuggly enough for blankets, and the ones I'm willing to donate.

Ohhh that sounds lovely, I wish we had a baby coming into our family, I'd love to knit baby clothes! :D Well we live together at uni, but during the holidays I visit every time :)

Your English is brilliant! I studied German for a while at school, but I expect my German would be much poorer than your English haha! :)

              Toni xx

              • That sounds easy enough for me to try:-)

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

I only have a younger brother and my boyfriend has an older sister:-)

But I don`t get on too well with my brother:-(

Well thanks for telling me about the perfect size:-)

I will try that very soon..

                Have a nice Weekend!

                Rachel xxx

                • Yeh I've got my friend (who doesn't normally knit) doing it haha! :p

I have loads of brothers and sisters, 10 in total! But I only lived with one haha. I get on with most of them luckily!

I had a lovely weekend thank you, hope you have a good week! :)

                  Toni xxx

                  • Wow so many?

My weekend was nice too,it was my mothers birthday:-)

I finished a square today but I guess it turned out too big:-(

Well tomorow evening my Mum is coming round to knit so I will try the magic way:-)
