Tomorrow Nelson Mandela is 91. In honour of his birthday South Africa has created the Annual ' Madiba' Day (his nickname). He has suggested that it is a day in which people go out into the community to see what they can do to make a difference. How fitting that Ronda will be distributing 60 blankets at Phiri Parish tomorrow (look forward to a story about this in the next ezine). She has also been told that South African FM Radio will be contacting her to conduct an interview. How exciting that will be - will let you know!

  • thank you for posting this information Sandy! what a wonderful thing that in order to celebrate one should "go out into the community to see what they can do to make a difference." so simple and so good! so often, we look afar to give help when perhaps our next door neighbor could use a helping hand.
    Happy Birthday Madiba!!!
  • Part of Mandela's birthday celebrations were featured on out national news..... what an amazing life he has had... he's looking so frail now... but the smile goes on...very heartwarming
    • He is a very, very special man that is for sure!
  • P.S. Go to www.mandeladay.co.za to see some of the events taking place. I have entered a little bit about our distribution at Phiri Parish on Saturday...
    XOXOXO
    • Hello Ezza. For some reason when I click on your link it takes me to a Medico Herbs website!! No luck on the link but everyone if you google Mandela day I'm sure you'll find out info needed.
    • Just FYI, when I clicked on the link I have a site protector program and it told me this:
"regvista.com may cause a breach of browser security.
Why were you redirected to this page? When we tested, this site attempted to make unauthorized changes to our test PC by exploiting a browser security vulnerability. This is a serious security threat which could lead to an infection of your PC. "

So I am going to duck it. Just FYI to anyone else. I hope it doesn't infect anybody, I've never had so stern a warning or such a big red X come up before. However, all that aside, WAY TO GO Erin for posting some about the blanket distribution at Phiri Parish. What a GREAT way to celebrate the day. Nelson Mandela is a wonderful man and I hope he has a marvellous birthday!

      Jeanne :D
  • Good thinking Kyla! He's such an inspiration the world over - there's no reason whatsoever that you shouldn't start your own Madiba Day celebrations. His actual birthday is on the 18th (Saturday) and there are massive celebrations planned all over South Africa. There's a huge celeb-heavy 'do planned in New York too with lots of our local rock/pop stars and celebs over there to perform in his honor etc!

I'm sure Madiba would approve wholeheartedly of our Knit-A-Square ventures... perhaps I could gatecrash his birthday dinner and get a word in!?! Ha ha!!

    Have a great weekend all...

  • PS the 17th of July hasn't happened yet. its still the 16th for a few more hours yet.

I suppose that, if the world were going to end, we would know ahead of time because Australia would know first.
    • This is true. Let's hope we never have to test the theory!
  • thats a great day, I wish that everybody had one.

maybe I will take that day into my own callendar, and introduce it to my friends/family as well.
