  • Hi, Sharon!  I'm from Knoxville, Tennessee,  in the US, and have been knitting for Knit-A-Square for a couple years now.  I mostly do plain knitting, but I have gone through spells where I do various stitches to make cute patterns.  It takes a little more time to do patterns, and I feel that they are so desperate to get squares, that I mostly just keep on knitting.  I began as a way to help out with a project that would keep the kids warm and I could use up my stash of yarns left from other projects.  Now I'm shopping yard sales and church sales for boxes of yarns for $3, or so!  A lot of my friends will also do that, so I always have tons of yarns.  It's a good way for me to pass the evenings away as I'm watchng TV or something like that.

So glad you're joining us!  You'll get better and better and faster and faster and soon you'll be a pro.  You're off to a great start already!  That first square is so neat for a first one!

  • Hello Sharon and welcome to the forum. You're quite right, this is an excellent way to improve your knitting skills Everyone here is very friendly and helpful so if you have any queries there will always be someone happy to help,

You don't say how much you have learned so far but if you only do the knit stitch it will make a perfectly good square - probably most of the squares received are made in this way. If you can do 'purl' as well you have the basis for any stitch - all patterns are a mixture of the two stitches.

You'll see on  the UK group  that you have joined at a good time as we are able to take advantage at the moment of an offer by Jigsaw, a clothing group, to leave squares at their shops and thus not pay postage.

Lovely to have you with us.

    • Hi Christine , I'm just doing the knit stitch first and when i've got used to this i'll try the purl stitch and hopefully progress from there.

Thank you for all your help.
