hexagon sweater explanation

Mary used the first pattern link for this sweater.

"Yes Lillian, the pattern is American, so where the instructions say double crochet for the UK it would be treble. I hope everything else is clear! :-) "

    • This one was done with a single crochet, chain 1 (sc, ch1) stitch, same hexagon pattern but what a warm bulky sweater!

  • I would add to anyone wanting to do this, please use a small hook or else brushed or nubby yarn or chunky yarn to make sure the sweater isn't "gappy" as can happen with some narrower yarns I've tried. I've got a granny square shawl and it keeps me warm but only just, it's got lots of gaps.  Mary always does these up so nice, so this is just FYI if you find a skinny yarn.  Thanks, for the sake of the kids.  :D (I get soooo frustrated with non-fluffy, skinny yarns!)
