Hello KAS friends...

Hello friends...

Here is a picture of Ronda, me, Joyce (of the Hip2BSquares) and Erin  - taken today at our Thursday morning opening session...

Just a small update on the people worst affected by the Kliptown flooding.  Those that had built their shacks on the lowest lying areas, closest to the waters edge, were moved to another area but they have all since moved back to Kliptown and rebuilt their shacks in the same place.  We can't work out why they do this but it might have something to do with the fact that all their families are there and that perhaps some of them are working in and around Kliptown and don't want to be too far away from their places of work.  We can only hope that we don't have another flooding disaster and that they are safe where they are right now.

In the meantime we are still concentrating on getting our 900 squares per week to Khayalethu - things are going well there and we'll try and get some photos of the progress if we can borrow a camera.

Wandi has, unfortunately, not been able to join us for the past two weeks because she has been battling a terrible does of 'flu.  We hope she will join us again next week as we are missing her lots!

Thank you again, everybody.

Chat next week.

  • Lindi, thank you for this update.   It must be difficult to see the people move back into an area that might flood again.  But you're right, they probably want to be near family and work.

900 squares per week is an awesome number.....I hope everyone in KAS is up to the challenge !

Hope Wandi is feeling better soon.

    • You won't believe it but they actually were hoping for MORE than 900 squares per week.  Unfortunately that's all we can manage at this stage but KEEP KNITTING, friends!!!!
      • Hii Lindi I feel I am talking directly to you and Wandi as it is only a few minutes since you put your message. I am up having another sleepless night. My son is emigrating to the States on Sunday and I am going over for his wedding in about a month. I have taken some time off work to help him get ready and there is too much of the napping in the afternoon! I will also lose my laptop as it is going with him so I am not sure how I will be keeping up with KAS news. I have one of my own and I split a glass of water on it and now it doesn't go. My IT son says it is OK but needs a new keyboard so we will have to see if we can get one of those. I certainly can't buy a new computer at the moment!

I have been teaching myself crochet and I will have to put some pics up sometime so someone can tell me if I am doing real stitches or if it is a madeup variety. It is much quicker doing squares. { Well it would be if they were square]!!!

MORE THAN 900 SQUARES!!!! Well onething is for sure it is up to us to keep the supply going.

    • Hi Lindi. yes I guess friends family and all that is familiar is important to people, and as human beings we are ever hopeful. I think people feel that "lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place." It is so great to have persona updates from you. Many thanks.

      Sue

  • Lindiwe thank you so much for telling us everything that is going on.  I must ask, where is Khayalethu?  I must have missed it as it doesn't ring a bell with me.  I am thinking like you are, that the displaced people of Kliptown miss their neighbors, family and want to be with people they already know even though a new area would be safer for them.  I too hope for their future safety.  Thank you for writing and that's a great photo!

    Love, Jeanne :D
