Hi everyone!

I've been knitting almost 10 years -- taught myself the basics from a book, and fell in love with the craft! I've been wanting to knit for charity, and am doing blankets for a U.S. charity called Project Linus. I love the idea of knitting squares because it's so much easier than doing whole blankets, more portable, easy to do a few squares when I need a break from a longer project, etc.

I do have one question about fiber. It doesn't say anywhere that the wool should be superwash, but shouldn't it? I don't know how often these blankets will need to be washed, but I certainly wouldn't want them to shrink and felt. Are most people using acrylic?

Hi Richelle,

I am from NW  Ohio but lived in Vine Grove, Ky when my husband was in the Army stationed at Fort Knox years ago. I worked at E-Town  so familiar with your area.

The wool does not have to be superwash as they do not have washing machines and the blankets are hand washed and probably in cool water and hung to dry.  People are using acrylic and wool. I do some of both. I use worsted wt and chunky wt. yarn but sport weight could be doubled if you have some of that.

So glad you joined us. Be sure to join the US group and any other group you want to be part of as we can join more than one.

Hi Jan! Small world, I actually work at Fort Knox.

thanks for the info! I just joined the US group.

Yes it is a small world.  I worked at the hospital in E-town and we went back years later and I could not find the hospital at first as the town grew around it. lol
