Hello from Alberta, Canada

I've been lurking here for several months and finally decided to come out of hiding because I have a couple questions, but I'll address those in another post. I discovered KAS this spring and I've made about a dozen squares and have a cuddle that's almost done.

Married with 3 gorgeous daughters, 2 handsome sons-in-law and 4 even more beautiful g'kids. I work 3 days/wk as a hairstylist and hubby works full time for an oil company. Retirement will be upon us in 2.5 years and we can't wait!

I have basic knitting skills, thanks to Momsie who has mad skills, but crochet is where I'm most comfortable. My squares are plain janes because I like the mindlessness of them. I do admire the fancy ones, though. Such a creative bunch here.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you better, even though I already feel that I do after peeking in here for so long.

  • I'm another Plain Jane-er.  I am full of admiration for the fantastic squares that appear on the Challenges - and know my plain squares will surround them to make them a centre piece.  I am not very creative but love to knit or crochet so just keep stitching away at whatever I fancy knowing it will help to keep a child warm.  Welcome to the forum Barb - you sound like a great family.

  • Hi, Barb!  So glad you introduced yourself!  I know just what you mean by the mindlessness of plain jane squares.  Knitting plain janes is so well suited for watching TV!  I've only been seriously knitting/crochet-ing for about two years (inspired by KAS!).  I still need to look when I crochet anything, but knitting plain janes even I can do by "feel" alone!  Welcome to the forum!

  • Hi Barb, from a fellow Canadian and crocheter.  So glad you've made yourself known. I tend to make Plain Janes while watching TV as I certainly can't follow a pattern and a TV program at the same time ! Using variegated or bright coloured yarns make the PJs even more attractive.  Since we need 35 to make a blanket it is great to work on quantity and I like to see the pile grow.  Having said that, I do like the challenge offered each month to try something different. Must have a look through my stash to see what bright South American colours I have.  If I don't, I may have to go shopping...... :-)

  • Thanks, Carol and Bev. :-)

  • Hi Barb...and welcome ..from over here in Western Australia. I know how it is...I think I 'lurked ' around here for about a year, possibly more, before I made myself known...and now you can't shut me up...lol.

Looking forward to getting to know you better, too.  :))

From a fellow 'mindless plain janer'.

  • Hi Barb and a very warm welcome to KAS from Norfolk UK. So glad you decided to pop in to meet us all. We are a very friendly bunch so please feel free to ask any questions, there is always somebody with an answer, as I have found out!

If you havent already, then do take a look around the site using the tabs at the top of the page. The photo section has some wonderful pics of peoples work and when you feel ready it would be great to see some of your work but it isn’t a necessity to do this. It’s a great place for ideas and inspiration to keep the children warm. Happy knitting/crocheting :)

  • Thanks for the welcome. Pam, you don't scare me...tee hee. I've done boatloads of reading here and have seen how warm and friendly everyone is.

  • Be brave, be very brave Barb - actually, we are an 'extremely' friendly crowd!  Plain or fancy squares are all welcome and appreciated - without being surrounded by the plain Janes the 'fancies' do not get a chance to shine.

  • Welcome, Barb, from the City of Brotherly and Sisterly love, Philadelphia in the USA!  Thanks for the friendly letter. Glad to know there are others who make the plain janes. I fancy knitting but can crochet as well. So glad you stop peeking and joined us!
