Report from Athele:

A heart-nourishing hour spent at a Children’s Home. Twelve orphans are cared for by an angel called Elaeanor and her dedicated team and kind patrons. She has dedicated the last ten years of her life and given her home to one hundred and eighty vulnerable orphans, who were rescued from dire circumstances, all of whom - except the twelve children currently part of the family - went on to be fostered or adopted by suitable long-term families.

Elaeanor relies completely on donations for the schooling and living expenses of all the children, who come to her loving arms through Police Child Protection Services and local Welfare organizations. She is an inspiring example of what one woman with a calling to serve can achieve. The children were over the moon at the chance to pick a fluffy toy, a blanket and a beanie from the selection Estelle and I gathered from contributors all over the world.

All the blankets were created from squares Estelle, her team of friends and I sewed together from our incredible team of contributors who bless us with all these gorgeous squares in support of Knit-A-Square’s initiative to give warmth and love to children who’ve had an especially rough start in life. We got a Big Thank You from Elaeanor, who made a point of saying how unique and special all the blankets are. For the rest, I hope my happy snaps say it all! Thank you to All those who made this distribution possible. You Rock!!
More good news is that Elaeanor is able to give us access to the children of Zandspruit - a squatter camp a stone’s throw from my house - which I’ve been so wanting to reach out to for so long! We’re planning a Christmas distribution in early December of up to 150 blankets, toys and beanies.

Thank you for being a part of making this possible!

    • Oh, that lion blanket! And the care and time that's gone into those number squares! I marvel at you good people who put in all this work, especially the go-gos, but wow, the generousity of the women (yes I said it) who devote their time to the children. Thank you for these photos. <3

    • Lion blanket how marvellous!!!

      • What a wonderful set of photos.    I'm really excited to see my heart squares, that Estelle joined I believe.   But I also see Amy's lion, a monkey (I think), and butterflies, stars, stripes, counting squares, neons, miters.   An amazing and delightful collection.

Thank You so much for all the photos.

      • Thank you for posting this visit, Linda.  :))

Thank you to Athele and Estelle for the photos and the recount of your visit. It was  wonderful to read about Elaeanor and the wonderful care she has provided to sooooo many children over the years. An AMAZING lady.

I was thrilled to see Sharon's big heart square (and some smaller ones) and Amy's lion, both nestled in those lovely blankets, seen previously in the blanket room discussion. I have to say I was also (very) thrilled to see my monkey in a blanket and my number squares in the blanket I had previously seen in the blanket room pics. What a fabulous start to my day!!

        • Thank you for such heart warming photos ! Eleanor is truly a treasure.
