Hey new friends, just wanted to share that today I've made my very first square!  Took me a little while to get the right amount of stitches/size of needles to achieve an 8in square but I got there in the end!  It's bright red with a small white snowflake in the right-hand corner.  I checked out the internet for a demonstration how to work a pattern into my work as I've never done this before and after a few tries I have got the hang of it!  I've now started work on my second square!

  • Well done Chris, thats awesome, before you know it you will have a tower of squares growing on your table! Happy Tension! Jo ;-)
  • Hey, I have my first packet of seven squares ready to post.  My daughter made one of the squares.  She has done really well learning to knit.  I was thinking I'd make mini dolls and toys now and send those.  Knitting toys, especially dolls, is what I enjoy most of all.  Is that okay?

    • Perfectly Chris!  KAS tries to give a toy & hat with each blanket.  Much better to do something you really enjoy.  Don't forget to put them on the photo tab when you have time.

      • I'll try and figure out how to add a photo when I have made a few more dolls.  I've posted out my first squares packet and hopefully I'll have a packet of dolls ready to post soon.

        • Well done, Chris......and if you have probs uploading the photos....just ask, I'm sure someone will be able to help

  • You are making great progress Chris and fantastic that your daughter is joining in too.  You might like to look at a diagonal square for a change sometime - I find them easier to get to 8".  I will find a link to the pattern and post it here for you.  Great to have you with us.

  • Well done Chris on the success of your first squares. Lets hope they are the first of many and welcome to the team.

    • Thanks Jeni, I've just started work on my fifth square and I have been teaching my 8 year old daughter how to knit and after quite a bit of practising she has now started making her first square.  She is making a stripy square and is enjoying choosing colours!

      • Hello Chris, at first getting the squares to be 8" is a bit trial and error and I had several goes before hitting on the right number of stitches for me; I have an 8" card square handy for checking too. But as the others said this is also FUN so do please enjoy it:) !

  • Thanks everyone.  I've just finished my second square!  The wool shade is called Sunshine and I've made another snowflake in the corner, this time it's a green snowflake.  I am enjoying making the squares.  I've been looking about the website reading about posting and what people do but I'm not sure about it.  It says about posting three squares in an envelope so as to avoid any charges when it arrives but then some people seem to be posting out larger packages.  Should I post smaller packages or can I send 35 squares all at once when I've made them?
