It is that time of the year when we need to start rubbing/scratching our heads for ideas for next years challenges and themes!

Below is a list of the Challenges and Themes we have covered during the past 3 years - you may wish to re-visit some, or stick with some of the absolute favourites like Zig, Zags & Stripes or Variegated.

Or you may have other ideas that are totally new - the Moderator Team are having the same discussion, and, we welcome your input and guidance, so that eventually we can all come together to create a productive and creative list for 2015 that everyone can enjoy!

Thanks Pam.

Let me chat to the team and I'll get back to you with some ideas.

Oh, I love "In the Garden"

Would love to hear what the children would especially like.  Great Idea!

Some more ideas:

1) All about Smileys

2) Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes

Love these two idea's

Twinkle twinkle little Star!

How about  3-color squares, coloring book shapes, cupcakes, or smiles!

Love the idea of separating stripes, zig zags and textures.  The stripes and zig zags theme is great for using up small scraps and there are so many possibilities for different types of striped and zig zagged patterns that a whole month can easily be done on them.  Textures also has a lot of possibilities, different types of patterns and also novelty fluffy or knobbly etc yarns.I also like the idea of different colours, but perhaps we could have 2 or more, as some colours can be very hard to find in more than 1 shade. (for example Autumn could be oranges, reds, yellows, browns etc as these are all autumn colours).

I would definitely like to see the colour collision challenge again, so many great bright colours and patterns that can be combined for this one.

I like the subject ideas too, but some look a bit difficult (at least for me) for example cupcakes, my skills are not so great that I feel capable of making cupcake like pictures in either knitting or crochet.  (I might be able to manage something with a bit of felt, but still a difficult theme), same for 4 legged friends and nursery rhymes.

Plain Janes is also a great subject, especially for new or beginning knitters/crocheters. I think sometimes the more complex themes might put off people who are new to KAS and to knitting/crocheting.

Great idea to feature jumpers/go overs (sleeved garments), and hand warmers again too.  Like last year to encourage some supplies of these to be ready for the arrival of the African winter.

Also  how about shapes? Those would be relatively easy to do, i.e. a square with a circle or a triangle, diamond, oval, rectangle, heart etc on?

Thanks Wendy, all these ideas help the Mod Team when it comes to the final decisions making process. Quite rightly we want everyone to feel included, but the Themes are only for guidance and we are more than happy for those members who prefer to do their own 'thing' !

Obviously, we only have 12 months, and some of the suggestions may be combined, but we won't be able to squeeze them all in!  This year, we have particularly focused on colour projects as we want to encourage members who enjoy creating PJs to feel more involved - just wish they would post more of work on the Photo tab! After all, one has only to look at the Blanket Collection to see, the PJ, is the backbone of KAS!

Another reminder for everyone - the monthly Themes do not have to be lead by a Moderator, we are more than happy to have members take the lead as well!

You're absolutely right Pam. In SA we love the fancy squares, but that may be one in a blanket with the other 34 being PJs. I cannot emphasise how important the PJs are.

Then how about a Plain Janes challenge? I am looking forward to participating in this...

Good idea to combine some themes, that way if you felt unable to do one you may be able to do the other.

I know the challenges are optional, but I do enjoy participating when I can, and feel a little sad if they seem out of my skill range.

Some great ideas being suggested, I look forward to seeing what will be selected.

CREATECARE GLOBAL

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."

Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
