Happy August, everyone!

This is the one month in the year when I can take some time to breathe and relax - and do LOADS of knitting and crocheting!

It also means I am able to host a theme and spend a bit more time on the forum.

The KAS pattern book has a good selection of knitted and crocheted squares with different patterns and textures, for a starter. The wider Internet is alive with a rich variety of choices, if, like me you have a little more time this month and want to try some thing new.

So this is the month to rake through your stash and find all those weird bits and bobs of eyelash, fuzzy and pom-pom yarns that you never know what to do with!

Of course, this will then create space to buy some lovely new yarns...

Hopefully, that's whetted your appetite and got your creative juices flowing!

Let's see how many people are brave enough to try out at least ONE new stitch or technique this month.

As you upload your photos onto the main site, I will add them to our photo album for the month, which you can view here:

Happy creating!

First square for this theme  - I'm looking forward to trying out a few more textures soon.

A FABULOUS intro, Heather....thank you for hosting this month's theme. I plan on using up some of my pesky 'fun fur' yarn.

A very pretty blue square to start us off with. I LOVE the many variations of the basket weave.  :))

A new month, new theme, new creations, and possibilities. WELCOME!!! I hope to be a bit more productive during this month. Let the fun begins!!!

Beautiful BLUE basketweave square, Heather ... :))  Great start to what will be a fun theme! xo

What a great intro, Heather. I've been rather unproductive for the last month (buried myself in my family tree - a 20 year project which I am determined to finish this year. It's a bit like trying to do the most horrendous logic puzzle ever written.)  It's time I took some time off, gave my brain a rest,  and used up some of the 'oddish' yarns in my stash.

Ha - I remember getting into that back in 2005! It gets very addictive!

Good Luck, Anne.    I had fun with our families a few years back, and learned a couple interesting facts.   However, I rather quickly ran into road blocks with names.   Either they were too common, so searching produced 36 million results, or they were too unusual, and produced zero results.   I hope you have more usable, middle-ground results.

Great intro Heather, now I must put my thinking cap on!

What a wonderful, inspirational introduction to this month's theme, Heather.    I have lots and lots of those fuzzy, soft, and difficult yarns to use up, but first ...

I just recently saw this pattern online, and needed to try it out.  Called Waffle Stitch, it really does look like a waffle when complete.   Also, it was really easy, and worked up quickly.  Here's the link that I used:  https://www.thestitchinmommy.com/2015/06/waffle-stitch-tutorial.html

Maybe some others will want to try it as well.

(P.S.  Won't Gloria be happy to see all these pretty blue squares?    Sorry, Bev, you'll need to round up your pink crowd to give balance to the theme.)

That's beautiful, Sharon! I love the colour and the pattern is intriguing - I'll certainly be trying it out...

More blue!!!  You're absolutely right, Sharon.  I'm so happy to see all that blue appearing :))  What a Glori-ous shade this is!  And that pattern is very interesting! xo

A beautiful, beautiful square, Sharon. Yes, it is a glori-ous blue.  :))

I have three different colours I plan on using in my 'August' project....none of which are pink, so I will have to incorporate some pinks into it....can't have everyone thinking the only colour is blue.....lol.
