The month of April is coming to an end, and with it the month's "Flag Challenge" is winding down.
We've had a lot of fun!
Here are some numbers regarding the results of this challenge so far:
If you want to keep on making flag squares, please do! I will continue to count them and post the photos on the flickr page.
Soon we will hear from Anne Powell about the May challenge - can't wait to hear what she's got up her sleeve!
Many thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm on this challenge!
Mary

The April 2012 Challenge will be:
Flags of the World
Part of the beauty of the blankets that are made out of the squares we send to South Africa is the fact that in one blanket there may be squares from many countries of the earth.
We can celebrate this world, united through our handiwork, joined together into blankets.
The idea is to make squares inspired by flags. You don't necessarily have to replicate the flag - you can just make squares using the colors of the flag of your country, or "plain Jane" squares made with the colors of the flag, or of the flag of a country you love for any reason, or your best friend's home country, or the latest member of KAS's country.... anything!
And, of course, squares celebrating the beautiful colors of the flag of South Africa are always a hit!
Most flags are made from what I call "crayon colors", so I'm hoping these are colors that most people have in their yarn stash, and you won't have to go out to buy new wool.... ;-)
There are many many flags we can find inspiration in - google "world flags" and you can find lists, images and games! Here's an image I hope will give you a start:

Oh Canada..... Verse One
A large ball of red, a large ball of white and a dose of patriotism..... here are my first 6 squares.....
Since I am not talented enough to crochet our maple leaf, I used an applique of 'ecofelt'... neat stuff, washes well, dries fast . doesn't bleed, and keeps its shape..... and believe it or not, it is made from recycled plastic bottles!!
My first flag squares inspired by this great challenge-and all the photos of Mary's fantastic squares. These are the colours of the Union Jack-I am planning on using black and white for St Piran's flag(Cornwall- I know it is not a country but it is my adopted home!) and blue and white for St Andrew's flag(Scotland-my country of birth)
Of course we have to go out and buy new wool, Mary-we have a wonderful excuse looking for flag colours!
Wow! What a beauty!
